Did you read that the news this week that Tom Delonge of Blink182 had leaked footage of UFO's and now the Navy has confirmed they are unidentified? Sure, it's not confirmation of aliens but still pretty neat. If you haven't seen the NYT piece on the footage, check it out.
Sept 20th is, apparently, a very big day for musical releases. There's a ton of great new stuff that came out today - Patrick Damphier's remix EP among them. I hope you'll take some time to listen to it.
Tornaders - please be a prank, please be a prank, please be a prank.
Alienstock begins - you know about #StormArea51? The movement to have "thousands" of people storm the government base - running like Naruto - to find answers. It's become a music festival now and I can only imagine how much stupid footage we're going to get over the weekend.
Patrick Damphier has just released a collection of remixes based on songs from his debut album, Say I'm Pretty. The aptly named Say I'm Pretty Remixes EP is streaming on all the things now and features a banana with spaghetti in a ziploc bag. I love the music within but I'm also oddly proud that we decided to use this bizarre image for the art.
If you haven't heard the original album, don't sweat it. Just dive right into this remix EP and enjoy the reinventions from Thad Kopec, Yuuki Matthews, Coupler, Makeup and Vanity Set and Zachary Dyke. While I legitimately enjoy each of these new tracks, I really love that fellow yk Records artists Coupler and MAVS are included.
.@kroger removing alt-weekly stands from your stores would make community news less accessible to the communities it serves. Alt-weeklies are important, and it’s important that they’re easily available. Bad move.
Jared Leto isolated himself and sent rats to his cast-mates.
Joaquin Phoenix lost 52 pounds.
Cesar Romero couldn’t be arsed to shave his moustache off so just put make-up on top of it. https://t.co/NVao5vvC8P
Imagine a world where the existence of UFOs was discovered and made public by the lead singer of a successful late 90s/early 2000s pop punk band. Now imagine you’re living in that world, because you are, this happened in real life.
I really enjoyed this and I'm sad it's over. If you have a long drive/flight ahead and want to hear two smart, funny people take apart an insane music business story, pop this in your queue. https://t.co/OQ3zBqQcVX
Thinking, as I often do, about the time Yahoo News thought "Zooey Deschanel divorces Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard" meant she had left a man named Death Cab to pursue a relationship with the lead singer of the band Cutie https://t.co/rIA3b47KVe
There's an in-studio sessions thing here in Nashville called "Q Sessions" put on Monkey Riot Recordings that features bands performing in a well known studio called County Q. Lots of cities have this sort of thing but no cities have the playlist of bands that are specific to Nashville. They have done a phenomenal job of inviting bands like Only, Tape Deck Mountain and Hari to play. These are local bands to Nashville so you are forgiven for not having heard of them but I highly suggest giving a deep dive here; lots of great music to unearth.
The latest session is from Patrick Damphier featuring the song "Money in the Meter," the closing track off his debut album Say I'm Pretty. He's got an all-star band with him and it turned out incredibly well.
I had so much fun making this podcast with @yewknee and if you want to know everything there is to know about Chris Gaines -- every episode can be found here!

there is a reason I started a podcast and it’s because this is literally me after 1 beer at events/on dates explaining why the band someone just said they didn’t like is important and they’re wrong https://t.co/fuYGrYcyM6
