If you're in the Nashville area around Sept 28th, 2019, take some time to
swing by Gainesfest; a celebration of the 20-year anniversary of Garth Brooks taking on a fictional pop persona. I have nothing to do with the event but I'll be there slackjawed and staring at a group of people that share such a strange fascination.
Enjoy some stuff I found...
- Terence Howard on the Red Carpet - it's hard to tell if this is a troll or if we should be legitimately worried for Mr. Howard.
- A perfect quadruple back tuck - I cruise /r/youtubehaiku fairly regularly looking for items for these Friday compilations and it is mostly awful... but sometimes you come across a solid gem.
- Spot Launch - the Boston Dynamics Spot Robo-Dog is now a thing that can be purchased. Admittedly, the technology is impressive but they are intentionally making this commercial feel like a dystopian horror movie, right?!
- Amazon Loop - they literally made a wearable ring that you whisper into it and hold to your ear. This implementation is pretty awkward (looking and behaving) but I give them credit for trying something new. Not a funny video, just one to marvel at.
- Octopus Dreaming - I will never tire of seeing an animal color shift. Unbelievable every time.
- Twen - "Damsel" - been very much enjoying this album lately, thought you might as well.
That's it! Short and sweet.. and, frankly, not all that weird. Hopefully still satisfying as you slide into the weekend.

Tomorrow, Sept 28th, 2019, marks the 20-year anniversary of the time Garth Brooks released an album as a fictional character named
Chris Gaines. If you're a regular reader of this site, you know I
helped make a show about it and created a
massive GIF archive of the time he went on SNL to promote the album.
In celebration of the anniversary, I made a bunch
more GIF's of Chris Gaines
first band Crush. Yes, the fictional character also had a fictional first band that he started with his friends in high school and it plays a huge part of the backstory of the tortured Gaines. This is about the most niche batch of GIFs I could probably ever make but... here they are!

Happy to announce that
Fetching Pails will be releasing their debut album,
Telekinesis for Beginners, via
yk Records. The first single, "
Lemon Phosphate" is embedded below.
The project is the pseudonym of Jill Townsend, singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist on the record. She was previously a part of the band
Nightblonde, who's solitary release was woefully overlooked album in my opinion. The songs on
Telekinesis have been bouncing around in Townsend's head for years; pieced together while traveling with random instruments and Garageband before being pulled together into one cohesive offering.
The album is
available for pre-order and the single will be on all the streaming services tomorrow, Sept 27th. I'll be sure to remind you to check it out.

@Whooping_Jane I took my younger brother to a 12am showing of a Twilight movie. I’d worked at 6 that morning & was beat/loopy. An HP commercial played. The logo came up, & right as it went silent in the packed theater I say -*much* louder than intended- HOT PIZZA in my best Jerri Blank voice.

Take some time to watch these NY Times video pieces on
Jaron Lanier Fixes the Internet. The technologist and futurist skillfully lays out many of the issues with the Internet - namely the conflicting overlap between Socialism (all services are free) and Capitalism (we want shiny new products), the wasted value of your personal data and how a new paradigm could fix things.
While he is able to express the problems and a possible solution very eloquently and clearly, it's not an
easy undertaking. He's basically suggesting that our personal data be held within a middleman; a Mediator of Individual Data that handles your data and the payments you would receive for that data. Conceptually, it's great.. practically speaking, it's a hill to climb, without a doubt.
Highly recommend watching all of the videos, if for nothing more than just food for thought. It's curious to think of this suggested new paradigm and how it would play with something like the
Brave browser or Tim Berners-Lee
Solid Apps. At first glance, they certainly all seem to fit together quite nicely.
