I don't care much for the ax thowing craze going on right now but see Gritty crush it really brought me back around to a refreshed enjoyment of All Things Gritty. Please let there never be a scandal with him.
Busy week! Busy past FEW weeks actually. Overwhelming you might say. But who's to blame but myself? Enjoy some distractions.
Empire State of Mind - Lizzo has been on YouTube since at least 2010 and published this video where she crushes a flute solo to accompany "Empire State of Mind" - I doubt there's anything else you need to see this week.
Bleary "Bug" - I quite enjoy this band and have been quite enjoying this ongoing series of studio sessions. Give it a listen.
Love After Lockup: Unlocked - I don't watch much trash tv but when I do, it's Love After Lockup, Life After Lockup or 90-Day Fiance. Okay, so maybe I watch a good amount of it. BUT, regardless, WeTV started a recap show where Jamie Bradley is one of the hosts; and it's written by Ashley Spurgeon. So, as far as I'm concerned, this is a Hott Minute product.
Introducing LADYLAND; a new podcast from @theblondemule. Women from a diverse set of backgrounds and professions sit down to chat about their lives, their hardships and their favorite guilty pleasures. Episode 1 Drops next week but you can subscribe now:

Things (like consumption of beer and spaghetti) escalate quickly in the music video for The Medium's "Have a Happy Day." The clip previews the group's 'Get It While It's Hot,' forthcoming from @records_yk.

The Medium are gearing up to release their debut Get It While It's Hot on September 6th and in doing so have released a new single for "Have a Happy Day." The track debuted over Pond Magazine and is available for your viewing pleasure at any time. It's a delightfully fun song, paired with a video of absolute chaos - a fitting combination.
The debut also has a great interview with the band and producer Jake Davis talking through their recording and writing process, interesting for very different reasons than the madness of the video.
I mentioned this in the sidebar the other week but, upon further listening, it bears repeating - if you're into the shoegaze genre, spend some time with this debut release from 4Vesta, Light & Chemicals.
It has all the shoegaze staples, the trembling guitar, the wall of reverb and the dream-y vocals; both female and male in this case. It's also conscious not to just ape the basics of the genre, tracks like "Autophase" stay in the shoegaze lane but add modern elements and instrumentation without feeling out of place.
It's also on the streaming services, so you can hear it wherever you'd like. I suggest hitting that Follow button as I'm sure whatever comes after this will be equally as intriguing.
I am absolutely smitten with Damsel Frau, the mask work creations of Magnhild Kennedy. The Norway born designer moved in London in 2007 and started creating these headpieces from found materials while working at a vintage shop. Her process is nicely explained in this Vogue piece but it's hard to imagine that any amount of words could encapsulate the downright captivating constructions. They manage to be nightmarish, beautiful, alien and familiar all at once.
The four images posted above are a nice start but there's a deep well to check out on Instagram at @famselfrau and over at her official site.
