Y'all, my Chris Gaines obsession is hitting critical mass. I bought a radio promo CD off discogs recently because it might contain a little known dub remix of one of the first Gaines singles. I don't really even care that much about the music but I'm continuously fascinated by the world surrounding it. I'm going to stick with this and see where it leads.
How is the Pizza Made - food photography tricks laid out in plain explanation. Fascinating. Never forget advertising is lying.
Mindhunter: Season 2 - I don't get excited by much on Netflix these days but new Mindhunter is worth some anticipation.
Twin Red Panda Babies - little palette cleanser here. Music is unbearable but, c'mon, look at these two!
Keanu Reeves + Sesame Street Deep Fake - there was a Family Matters with Mike Tyson faces making the rounds a few weeks ago but I couldn't stand to share but this, this I can get into. Stare deep into the Keanu face; it's unnerving but also not entirely unbelievable.
I've collected this summer's singles into a convenient playlist on Spotify for y'all's easy streaming. MWAH! Hope this thing works!
Love, Aunt David

I know everyone likes to think that "Tumblr is dead" now that they've changed ownership hands multiple times and put Adult Content safeguards in place but it's still a pretty phenomenal place for discovering new artists. I've been following Concept Album and Nevver for as long as I can remember and consistently find incredibly inspiring images. Point blank, lots of good stuff to look at over there.
One such discovery is the portfolio of work from Todd Antony, which covers a lot of ground. These portraits of Cholita Wrestlers are perfectly surreal, suspending the subjects in battle outside of the ring. Also be sure to give a spin to the Dekotora truck drivers, which feels a bit less like a fever dream but no less fascinating.
You'd think 2016 would have taught the media how dangerous it is to elevate someone who meets the bare minimum for public speaking simply because they create a spectacle, rather than acknowledge all the disqualifying things that person has said along the way, yet...here we are. https://t.co/1JCysxsGse
Just heard @dmstith’s latest release “When You Lost Your Toys” and holy moly is it good. Straight into my top 3 for 2019. Love it! Listen now https://t.co/DHGxAW7Urt #nowplaying
@yewknee @_NoStress_ @GarthGainesSNL You can see/hear how this was written by the same dudes who wrote "Change the World' and got Babyface to produce and Garth was like "Yep, rock music."
As you know, I'm on a quest to get Garth Brooks back on SNL as Chris Gaines. It's been 20 years since the maligned project kicked off and immediately deflated but it's persisted in the cultural zeitgeist for decades. I dare say it's even become more understood in that time.
Case in point, here's Childish Gambino covering Chris Gaines single "Lost in You." His soulful rendition really isn't that far off from the original. Sure, the Gambino version is better but it's a nice nod to the staying power of the project. AND he performed it in Australia, where Chris Gaines was originally from (yes, the character has a deep backstory).
TLDR: Childish Gambino gets it. Many thanks to Paul for the heads up.
