There's a lot of words out there on the Internet about the inherit goodness or badness of our current behaviors within the realms of social media. Many times it is rather doom and gloom and often it doesn't provide suggested solutions, insights or even context to the overall takeaways.
That being said, Michael Marinaccio's piece
Foreshadowing an internet health crisis manages to check all the right boxes. It's insightful, contextual and even provides some guides for the future. It's also not
entirely doom and gloom, though there's certainly an understandable amount in there.
Concentrated eyeball time reading a piece about how the Internet is draining us is likely not at the top of anyone's priority list but it's worth it, probably more than once.
It covers a
lot. It's a great articulation on "image-based" culture (not jpegs and gifs but perception itself), corporations and politicians role in gatekeeping and the general concerns around the mass consumption we all now participate in. I promise it's not a complete bummer but it is something we should all give some brain cycles to.

Just a quick note to document the fact that longtime buddy
Jeremy Okai is in an ad campaign for
Robbie Augspurger, a Portland creative type who does a bunch of great, stylistic, photo work but also created
Video Pizza (a personal favorite) and makes music as
Ozarks, which I am quickly falling for.
TLDR: the Internet still has good things.

I've been a fan of
Will Bryant for about as long as I can remember so it's no surprise that his interior design, branding and overall vibe for the Austin, TX restaurant
Last Straw is a treat for my eyeballs. Done in collaboration with
Cody Haltom, the space is vibrant and bustling with colors but somehow it's not overwhelming. The camel neon is, obviously, a great touch but the blue floors and accents on
some of the seating are just great. It's that tiny random, slightly chaotic, vibe that actually pulls it all together.

Despite the fact that I currently work at Vimeo, I don't really spend much time perusing the site or seeing original works that creators are putting out there. Fortunately, I
was able to stumble upon
Ugly, an animation from
Anna Ginsburg that kind of blew my mind. While I can't claim to understand the tribulations of the female experience, I can appreciate the swirling, morphing, textured and immersive piece that pulls from a number of different cultures of style. It's rather beautiful for a piece entitled the opposite.

This headline is very misleading. Garth talked about Gaines as recently as June of 2019. He says its not an era he plans to revisit but it's clear he wasn't off base with Gaines, it just wasn't something his audience was expecting.

Yuuki Matthews is a member of The Shins, Sufjan Stevens and
Teardrops. That last one is a collaborative project between Matthews and the late, great Richard Swift. The self-titled album is now
available on Bandcamp and other streaming services soon.
If you're into this (and you should be), also check out Swift's
Instruments of Science & Technology pseudonym. It's similar but only oin the broadest sense (i.e. it's not the lo-fi R&B or slick pop songs that Swift was also known for).
It's been a year since Swift passed and music continues to be released that he had a part in.

Pretty Useful. They've got a number of posters, patches and pins worth having a look at. I don't buy near as many pins as I did a few years ago but that's not going to stop me from heavily appreciating a tasteful
Pizza Abduction Pin (that also glows in the dark). And every city should be so lucky as to have a pin like this
Memphis pin to show off their pride for their area code.

I recently caught a
tweet from one of my favorite musicians,
Matt Oliver, who (apparently) also side gigs as a developer and activist. Aside from this fact making me enjoy his output even more, he pointed me towards a project called the
Register 2 Vote Registration Map.
In short, the project is a cross pollination of public data that allows you to drill down into your specific state, county and district to see the number of folks who have
not registered to vote.
This information is fascinating but they don't stop there. The overall initiative of
Register 2 Vote takes the pains out of voter registration. You submit your name and address and they'll send you a voter registration form all filled out with postage, you just need to sign it and drop it in a mailbox.
If you're already registered to vote, you can donate to their cause to help pay for the included postage in getting more folks registered. This can be a direct benefit to your community:
For whatever dollar amount you choose to contribute, our automated system will mail the number of registrations to residents in that region, and our system updates the map's funding completion status. That way, you can follow the impact you're making!
There's more specifics in the
FAQ but, all and all, this is a wonderful idea.
