I've been watching Rollum Haas play music for almost twenty years. Most folks know him for his drummer work in The Features but he also contributed a great deal to the songwriting. Furthermore, he's an integral part of Coupler, Tristen, lylas and, lately, New Man. All that is to say, when I got the opportunity to work with Rollum to help release his debut album as The Robe, I was quite flattered to be involved.
Due to scheduling and making sure we had the right timing for the release, I've ended up sitting on the album for awhile. LP's have been in my office for a few months and that's generally not the case. Fortunately, all that waiting around turned into fevered excitement (for myself) to get the record into the world and now it's here.
Of course I want you to buy the vinyl but, really, I just want you to give it a listen. I've tried categorizing it in previous posts but nothing I've come up with really does it justice. It's an amalgam of a lifetime of influences and playing with various bands and it's certainly not just one thing. Compare "Face to Face" with "In the Morning" and you'll get a good taste of the range we're dealing with here.
TLDR: artist whom I greatly respect releases debut album and I'm excited about it. Give it a listen.
If this is what it takes to 'connect the world,' perhaps we can go back to calling people on the phone, or meeting people in real life, or learning how to converse with strangers? https://t.co/lARhOQloC0
here's the cover of @FilmmakerMag's summer 2019 issue. the print edition was once again designed from front to back by charlotte gosch + myself. we hope, as ever, that you manage to find a physical copy and can see (and smell) the work as it was intended.

Really enjoyed this latest episode of Thick as Thieves. Hosts Sara and Veronica investigate Stephane Breitwieser, the world's most prolific art thief. He stole over 250 works from hundreds of museums across Europe and sold none of them. Why?
Really fascinating story and a great jumping off point for reading interviews and essays on the guy, as he's still alive and (spoiler alert) in jail for continuing to steal.
There's a 1995 documentary called Wigstock: The Movie that captures the drag festival that occurred in the East Village during the 1980s and 1990s. It features the likes of Lady Bunny, RuPaul, Debbie Harry, Deee-Lite and tons more. It's a nice peek inside of an event that took place at the height of the AIDS crisis and during a time when LGBTQ people weren't as empowered to stand for their rights (it's a long road, don't get me wrong).
There's a new HBO documentary called Wig that captures the revival of Wigstock, in its largest form ever. Expect to see Lady Bunny, Latrice Royale, Miss Vanjie, plenty of incredible outfits and outpourings of the benefits of drag and drag culture. The film releases on June 18th.
Gilbert Baker is the creator of the LGBTQ Rainbow Flag. He passed away in 2017 but NYC Pride and NewFest partnered together to create a typeface inspired by the flag. The face, Gilbert, is free to download, free to embed and is, honestly, pretty nice. There's even an Animated Version that's free for After Effects - not too shabby.
I don’t mean this in a rude way but every motorcycle should come with a built-in decibel meter where if the engine goes over a certain volume the bike explodes, killing the rider
It always feels nice when someone shares your art, but when they also reference the Brian Eno album you were listening to while you made the art? PRICELESS https://t.co/lZG3HP3sTx
