Happy
International Women's Day! I am thankful for all the strong, insightful, talented, hilarious and reliable women in my life. I'm also thankful that I
don't have anyone in my life that find's an International Women's Day to be a cause for alarm.
- Deeply Artificial Trees - here's something disturbing! Bob Ross run through Deep Dream. Apparently this was posted a year ago but it's a brand new nightmare for me. Scrub to a minute in and really let it set in.
- Alpha-ghetti - I was looking up various types of pasta this week (as you do) and found that Alphabeto is a recognized type of pasta. Even more amusing is a product called "Alphabetti Spaghetti" - just too pleasant.
- If You Get To Heaven... - Confidence through and through.
- Giant Dominos - I understand this is a great example of learning about energy but I'm confident that wasn't the intent. What a strange thing.
- Spiderman Forever - no getting out of this.
- Leaving Hope - caspar newbolt's short film is available to watch in its entirety. Carve some time out this weekend to do so.
- Jenny Lewis, On the Line - this is three and a half hour variety show hosted by Tim Heidecker with Jenny Lewis and a massive cast of guest stars; including Vanessa Bayer, St. Vincent, David Arquette, King Tuff, Natasha Leggero, Jason Schwartzman, Jeff Goldblum and more. I can't say that it's entirely entertaining but I can say that it exists.

A woman came up to a friend and The Boyfriend at a bar: “Can I get a picture? I have a friend who looks exactly if you two had a kid and my group text would explode if I showed them.”
The Boyfriend: “No.”
I’ve never been more in love.

I caught wind of
Valentyn Odnoviun on WIRED the other day and have been taking a deep dive into his fascinating body of work.
His
Surveillance collection is a fascinating collection of tiny images with a dark secret; they are actually images captured through tiny spyholes in KGB prisons in the Baltic States and Ukraine. While there's an undeniably beauty here, it's hard not to look at them with a heavy heart after learning their background.
The remainder of the portfolio is certainly worth taking a look at as well with
The Process also dealing with prison life or
Horizons playing with expectations (and format). Spend some time with all of it, it's not a massive repository so you can find some appreciation for it in no time.

The Season 1 finale of
San Dimas Today wrapped this week with hosts Jason T. Meares, Esq and Kelly Hoyle Bollick taking a look back at the legacy of the films in the wake of the 30th anniversary and ahead to
Bill & Ted Face the Music, the imminent third sequel.
They also take a moment to reflect on who should play Rufus's daughter in the forthcoming sequel and their prediction is pretty spot on.
A second season with plenty more interviews will commence in a few months. So, in the meantime, go
follow or
subscribe and catch up on everything you missed.

Take some time to read this Times interview with
Karen O and Dangermouse on their collaborative album,
Lux Prima, that they've been working on for the past 11 years. There's a lot of wonderfully inspiring thoughts peppered throughout about being a female artist in your 40's:
“I’m on a vision quest of sorts: What does it mean to be a woman artist in her 40s? And how can I lay it down so that’s like, something [expletive] awesome,” Karen O said a few days later at a tony Lower East Side hotel that sprouted up two blocks from the tiny Mercury Lounge, where Yeah Yeah Yeahs played their first show, opening for the White Stripes. “It’s not a paved road, it’s not a well-beaten path,” she added. It’s “find your way through that wilderness and write us a postcard.”
...and the difference between being an entertainer and an artist.
“I had always thought music was entertainment, and I didn’t want to be an entertainer, I wanted to be an artist.” He referenced his days in Athens, Ga., when he became immersed in the ’90s psych-rock scene anchored by the Elephant 6 Recording Company. “I was like, people make 15-minute songs? You’re taking yourself out of competition or pop or any of that stuff, you’re just making something. That’s what I want to do.”
Aside from the thoughtful questions on being a creative person on the other side of the hill, it also sounds like it's going to be a helluva record. I've listened to the
title track far too many times already.

The second season of
Hott Minute concludes with this episode with hosts Ashley and Jamie consulting with their astrologer
Madame Rose to traverse the Zodiac Wheel of hotties.
I'll admit to being a bit of an astrology doubter myself but it's pretty fascinating to hear them go through this giant list of people and how common traits apply to each based on when they were born. Maybe this is a serious case of drawing inappropriate conclusions but, at the very least, it's
fun to think about.
If you've never read your Natal chart,
give it a whirl. I believe you'll enjoy the results.
Hott Minute will return in a little while with Season 3 and plenty of new surprises. In the meantime,
subscribe and catch up on everything you missed.
