Bill Murray on his life - Murray is often championed as the Surprise Partier. There's even a movie about it. But the man is capable of eloquence worth hearing... imo.
Cybertronic Spree - "Immigrant Song" - I shouldn't be but I'm baffled at the existence of a band that dresses up as the characters from the 1985 Transformers movie and plays songs from the soundtrack and occasional cover.
Abbi and Ilana - Hot Ones - I hate myself for continuing to watch this Hot Wing Interview show but I'll be damned if the discomfort of the interviewees isn't proper entertainment.
Goth Underpass - be honest, it's been too long since you've watched this.
Memory is a funny thing. This week I did a bunch of reading about Fiona Apple's third album, Extraordinary Machine, and how it had been shelved due to lack of interest from Apple herself, as well as her label. I consumed a bunch of articles about this as if I had never encountered this information before.
A quick search through the (embarrassing) archives yields plentyofposts about the events, as they were happening. Maybe I'm forgiven because that was 14 years ago?
Regardless, here's some worthwhile reads:
The Untold Story Of Fiona Apple's Extraordinary Machine - great interview with Brian Kehew (Moog Cookbook), who had a direct view of the entire experience from the groundfloor. He worked on When The Pawn..., recorded some bits on the original Brion version and re-recorded the new version. Though, ultimately, even his vision was not honored.
The Jon Brion Version - a reddit thread with a link to a Google Drive containing the supposed abandoned album.
The interesting thing about that last link - particularly when paired with Brian Kehew's insight, is that it's likely not the Brion version. It's a mashup of demos, new pieces and fan added parts. At least, so the story goes.
If you're not into downloading MP3's from a random Google Drive linked off Reddit, you're forgiven. Here's a YouTube playlist version of the supposed record.
If all goes well, I'll write all about this again in another 14 years.
Really enjoyed this Austin Kleon piece on The toughest route (and the road not taken), which explores the meaning behind Robert Frost's poem "The Road Not Taken." Specifically, it touches on the massive misunderstanding of the piece and how it's, basically, taught completely wrong.
I updated Flowerhead after lots of good feedback, mainly that it was WAY TOO HARD. Adjusted several levels, made the bees easier to deal with, and also added a level selector! Check it out: https://t.co/Hm8o37NdGN #pico8 https://t.co/sGm6Vgt3Ri
New @sandimastoday episode with @Nashskrilla and @codaphone discussing time travel woes, diegetic music and the future of B&T. A lively discussion if ever there was one.

Excited, terrified, completely in shock and PROUD as hell to announce this movie. We’re making a big, new romantic comedy for Universal!!!! AHHHHHHH!!! https://t.co/JO8qk5jKvL
I worked with Charlie Tran at VHX and never had a bad time doing so. He was an influential part of VHX having our own arcade cabinet and always had a respectful fascination with indie games. So, to see that he's launched his own little indie, is exciting news.
Flowerhead is a single screen platform built with Pico-8. You jump around, plant flowers and fight bees. The first 5-6 levels are a great training ground until it starts to get legitimately difficult. I love the Pico aesthetic and Charlie makes good use of it here.
I can't quite put my finger on it but the work of Portland, OR artist Manu Torres is intriguing to me. The floral arrangements he makes are both beautiful and oddly grotesque; though the photos of said arrangements feel endearingly classic. This writeup about how the work is made makes it even more enticing:
His floral arrangements often involve a dialogue between the artificial and the natural, incorporating paper, fabric, paint, and feathers to imitate and exaggerate natural beauty in a hyperreal way.
The exhibit up at the Russo Lee Gallery in PDX is pretty small but certainly worth a Jeremy.
I love What We Do In the Shadows, the Taika Waititi movie about domestic vampires. It's pretty much perfect. So, when I hear about a bunch of spin-offs or sequels being developed, I'm a bit disheartened. Trying to add to the world created in the original movie is only likely to mar the goodness I feel for it.
I tried to watch Wellington Paranormal, the TV show that focuses on the police from the same world. It's... okay but certainly not necessary.
Now the first trailer for the TV show version of the movie has released. I was quite skeptical going in but upon first glancing Matt Berry in the cast, my interest levels piqued. I still don't think the show is necessary but my optimism for it has increased greatly. Fingers crossed.
I enjoy every episode of Hott Minute for some reason or another. The hosts, Jamie Bradley and Ashley Spurgeon, are hilarious even when discussing topics that I have zero information about. However, this week they have posted an episode called When Animals Attack with Tracy Walnut that may be, far and away, my favorite.
Without giving too much away, the episode is a slightly different format than others and I find that to be a refreshing move in a new direction. If you've heard the show in the past and it didn't click - give this one a try. If you're a fan already, I think you'll appreciate what's going on here.
