Friday Videos - May 25th, 2018

posted May 25, 2018 #

The above GIF is a reminder that cats are magical, wonderful and strange creatures. If you have one, appreciate them. If you don't, find one and give it some quality time. Pets really are an amazing, special, presence in our lives. Keep em close.

On to the distractions!
  • Sleep Good "Somewhere" - a friendly repost of this Sleep Good video from last June, now part of the full album Bohemian Grove.
  • Solo - /r/youtubehaiku delivers some perfectly stupid goods from time to time.
  • David Cross v Stephen Colbert - pretty funny bit on the Late Show where these two trade off stories from their time on the Dana Carvey Show.
  • Wrong Car - KTLA newscopter follows the wrong car. If you've seen Baby Driver, this might feel familiar. An honest mistake I suppose but, if you wanna make it real, it's that lack of attention to detail that leads to real trouble.
  • Baby John C Reilly -
  • Walmart. Sugar. Plastic. - stick with it, it's hyponotizing in its own weird way.
  • Thrift Haul w/ Fat Tony - generally I do not enjoy gameshows on YouTube but this is pretty entertaining and the bonus commentary from John Early really puts it over the top. A bit long for a Friday video but, hey, enjoy it over the long weekend.
Enjoy your long weekend (assuming you're in the US and get Memorial Day off - apologies to all international readers).

Sleep Good - Bohemian Grove

posted May 25, 2018 #

Last June, the single "Somewhere" from Sleep Good was released with the promise of an album to follow shortly thereafter. Well, here we are a year later and the album is finally recorded, polished, mixed, mastered and ready for your ears.
Bohemian Grove is the seventh release from Sleep Good, aka Will Patterson, and the second on yk Records. The songs on his previous release, Dream Dealer, were atmospheric and mood inducing whereas Bohemian Grove tracks a proper story - complete with lyrics, hooks and breezy vibes. If you're familiar with his entire catalog, it's an excellent culmination of his previous efforts, while continuing to move into new styles.

If you're into music that pairs well with summer activities, this should be a nice fit. We're taking pre-orders on the vinyl now and the digital is already streaming everywhere.

Astronaut.io

posted May 23, 2018 #

There's something unbelievably comforting and engaging about Astronaut.io - a simple YouTube powered website that surfaces seemingly mundane videos.
These videos come from YouTube. They were uploaded in the last week and have titles like DSC 1234 and IMG 4321. They have almost zero previous views. They are unnamed, unedited, and unseen (by anyone but you).
These fleeting glimpses are a voyeuristic peek into a noteworthy event of a strangers life. Into it. On the surface, this seems like it'd be incredibly boring but it has a calming effect.

Morgenmete: Breakfast Satire

posted May 23, 2018 #

Tim Lampe is a name you might know. He's been involved with creative for Mailchimp, Bitter Southerner and Atari. He made Horse E-Posters and plenty of other fun things.

His latest endeavor is Morgenmete, a "Breakfast Satire Print Journal." In short, it's a limited edition magazine with articles, photography and features about the best meal of the day - breakfast. He's a reliably funny and creative guy that's running a Kickstarter simply to print the first issue and bonus rewards. It's not an insignificant amount of money that he's seeking but, given his track record, it's a sure bet that it'll be funny and worth a read.

If nothing else, backing this project just for a tote that says "I Never Skip Breakfast" is worth the money.

I actually want and need Castro and other podcast players to succeed. My goal of keeping podcasting open requires *diversity* among player apps: so many apps, all built on open podcasting, that producers can’t ignore or control them all. Overcast can’t do it alone. https://t.co/2T9oTHNRbx

@iusedtobepoor @anb722 I guess it's a habit of prioritizing fashion over comfort. I'm not especially fashionable but shorts always struck me as a first step toward sweatpants and tracksuits in public, which telegraphs to your community that you've given up.
