Cassini gave us Saturn, but also gave us Earth — as only deep space could reveal: Small. Frail. Lonely. Steeped in… https://t.co/VbAqrIChQE

Slow week this week for a number of reasons; namely spending time in NYC with my co-workers. Being back in TN is certainly great but there's a lot to be said for the energy of having folks
in the room with you. I don't really understand how these de-centralized companies do it. No in-person co-workers is tough!
But I digress, on to some distractions:
- Those Darlin's - Oh God - with the extremely unfortunate passing of Jessi Zazu this week, I've been revisiting a lot of her work in Those Darlins. This song in particular always struck me as particularly potent.
- Roadman Shaq - I will be perfectly honest in admitting that I don't really get the meme but I enjoy it none-the-less.
- Encyclopedia Wildlife Ad - as noted, this ad gets unexpectedly bleak.
- Ukrainian Synthpop 1989 - aside from the terribly lipsync job, this is fairly straightforward but that drum attack is something else!

Today, the
Cassini satellite that's been orbiting and exploring Saturn since 2004 will nosedive into the planet, collecting data about the atmosphere on the way down but, ultimately, ending its exploration. There are
massive repositories of images sent back and
beautiful galleries compiling the best of them (particularly when colorized) but this final dive should reveal even more.
I've
mentioned this before but given that
today is the day, it bears repeating. A man-made satellite that's been documenting an enormous planet for the past 13 years will intentionally enter the atmosphere today to collect more information. That's a helluva journey worth taking note of.

You may recall the name Pablo Maurer from documentation of a
field of abandoned concrete Presidential monuments or
Pennsylvania's Abandoned Turnpike. He is an explorer and documentarian of the forgotten. His latest in the
Abandoned States series are these
Postcard Matchup diptychs; pairing gorgeous postcards from the 60's and 70's with their 2017 realities. Obviously there's a lot of emptiness and neglect with most of these spots but some of them have held up surprisingly well, all things considered.
Dive into the
full gallery as there plenty of wonderful examples.
