I've posted this reminder
before but it bears repeating, two rather different but equally interesting releases from my label,
yk records, were released in varying years in early May. That is to say, these records are having "birthdays" and I love for that to serve as a reason to revisit them:
- Slowmotions - Square Piggy, Round Holly - after the release of his first album, Quick Potions, I pestered Mr. Brassell to release the remainder of songs, snippets and b-sides he had lying around. I think it works quite well as a companion piece to the original and still enjoying listening to it. The last two songs are goofy as can be but it's a nice reminder that artists should have fun too.
- Uncle Skeleton - All Too Human - the third album from Uncle Skeleton was also the first double LP for yk records. We released three singles leading up to the full album and included a bunch of remixes and b-sides along the way. It's a massive album broken up into four "movements." I listen to the entire album regularly but this weird song always resonates with me, I just wish it was longer.
The album, as a whole, never ceases to impress me but I recommend parsing it out into the four segments (listed on the Bandcamp page for full enjoyment).

Rather beautiful gallery of images from Vintage Everyday showcasing
NYC in the 1940s. There's not much else to it - sometimes a simple bundling of imagery is a worthwhile Internet distraction.

I've always enjoyed the massive amounts of sub-cultures that permeate Tokyo society. At least, from my viewpoint it seems like that's a thing. I'm sure most of the country is just regular folks doing regular things but if you're interested in digging up some wildly devoted group of people connected to a niche interest - Anime, Furries, Rock-a-billy, - Tokyo isn't the worst place to start.
I've known about the
Rockabilly Gangs for awhile but never took a deep dive into it. I didn't realize it was kind of a dying art. Watching this
James Partridge short,
Johnny Jeana: Portrait of a Tokyo Rockabilly, was a nice re-introduction to the style and lifestyle of that particular group. I'd forgotten how fascinating it is to see a group of grown men dressed to the nines performing dance moves from the 50's.
It's six minutes. You have six minutes of time to indulge in Johnny's tale. Just be prepared for a Google deep-dive afterwards to see more.

Simple and straightforward -
Fruit Stickers is a feed of those tiny little labels you find on your favorite natural sweet treat. I love the diversity of
legitimate great designs and
hilarious advice that pop up throughout.
My question is, how old are these? Are they found on 2017 fruit or is this pulling from an archive of the 60's? It's often difficult to tell.
