Over the weekend, we picked up
Mathematical Solutions for a Global Crisis by
Jesse Jacobs. It's an illustrated forecast of how to solve the future's woes, i.e.:
In an effort to combat overpopulation and environmental impact, by government decree, all babies, henceforth, are to be born half-sized, exponentially.
See, easy solve.
The zine is brilliant and entertaining but it's only the tip of the iceberg to explore with Jesse's work. You've probably seen it in this
unbelievable Landlady record or maybe these
Valley Cruise Press pins but, again, just the tip of the iceberg. You need a deep dive into his
Tumblr and
Instagram to get the full effect. It's such a great combination of outlandish color palettes and tripped-out weirdo space characters it's hard not to get sucked in.

I'm intrigued by the pitch from
Anchor - bite-sized, shareable audio that you can consume on the go. I'm just now digging into
using it but it seems that they've taken a new approach to listening to podcasts - making it a bit more social and trying to cut down on the perceived hurdle to posting your own.
Everyone loves a good podcast but there's certainly lots more room to improve and experiment with
how you consume them. Anchor seems to be making a solid go of it.

Letterman hasn't been on the air for roughly two years (his last show was May 20th, 2015) but that doesn't mean he's not paying attention to the world around him. If you haven't already, take time to read this Vulture cover story,
In Conversation: David Letterman. He largely ignores the late-night TV game but has so many wonderful things to say about the current state of politics, how Jon Stewart changed his approach to
The Late Show and the terror that is
Designer Shoe Warehouse.

A quick primer:
Jason Falkner is a musician best known for his work in Jellyfish, collaborations with AIR, Brendan Benson, Jon Brion and some wonderful
solo albums.
R. Stevie Moore is known as "lo-fi legend" known for his
insane output of bedroom pop songs over the last 30+ years. Over 400 albums and an unknown thousands of songs.
All that is to say, they are strange bedfellows but it's not completely bonkers that they would work together. And, they have.
Make It Be is an 18-song collaboration effort between the two creative minds that is a pretty wonderful listen.
I can vouch for the entire album because it was actually posted on Bandcamp three years ago and then quickly pulled down. Fortunately, that removal has resulted in Bar/None Records
releasing it on vinyl. So, be on the lookout March 10th for the full release and, hopefully, future collaborations.

Much like the
digital Grand Moff Tarkin, there is an unbelievable amount of fully CG characters in the new Wolverine movie,
Logan. If you don't give a flip about the X-Men franchise (understandable), this Cartoon Brew piece on
Logan's CG Actors is fascinating. Both Hugh Jackman and Dafne Keen (the leads) were fully digitized and replaced multiple times throughout the movie. Face substitution isn't exactly a new or surprising thing - and
Logan doesn't integrate it on the level that
Rogue One did - but the final product is impressive, to say the very least. Great read just for the seemingly identical side-by-side images.
