Little Bandit "Bed of Bad Luck" -Of course I'm going to remind you to watch this Little Bandit video. Still can't believe it was posted on Rolling Stone.
Budweiser "Born the Hard Way" - I kind of hate that Superbowl commercials come out before the game these days (the only reason to watch) but this commercial is incredibly poignant given the recent immigrant ban.
Neko Atsume trailer - you know that iphone game where you tend to a yard of cats? Yea, that's a live action movie now.
Moonpie Mania - I'm still deeply immersed in the archives of Carolina Camera. It's a breath of fresh air in our current times.
Dwight Yoakam Gap Commercial - remember this gem from the late 90's? I legitimately enjoy this, except for those khaki skirts... not a fan.
Disembodied Mouth Licks - what's a Friday video list without something completely unnerving and bizarre? You're welcome.
Flight of the Bumblebee - stupid. Perfectly stupid.
Lenny Kravitz "Fly Away" - I can always revisit this and it works as a reminder that there is good in the world.
Longmont Potion Castle "Bash" - the weirdest prank calls in the world. More on this guy in the latest ReplyAll, along with a particular impactful second segment.

I almost included this but it may be too dumb to even enjoy. Jury is still out.

Bandcamp + ACLU

In case you missed it, Bandcamp is donating to the ACLU for every purchase made today, Feb 3rd. They're eschewing their standard fee on transactions to give that back to funding. They've been joined by 200+ artists and labels that are going to donate their entirety of their side of the profits to the ACLU as well.

Long story short, if you've been waiting to purchase anything from Bandcamp, today's the day to do it.

Might I make these suggestions from two yk records artists donating all proceeds:

Apollo Up - Gone and Forgotten 2004-2005 - as a superfan, this is huge. For one day only the band is selling their demos and an unreleased EP version of their album Chariots of Fire. Must have.
Tower Defense - "Not Safe" - you can buy the b-side from Stay Inside and know that you're giving to a good cause.

When Bryan resurrected his radio show, The Subliminal Inevitable Show, as a podcast on BTR I loved that he was focusing each episode as a showcase for an individual label. I am flattered that he has chosen yk records as the focus of this latest episode. I'm biased of course but it's an incredibly good listen.

Coming up on Feb 10th if my yk Records Night over at the Mercy Lounge in Nashville, TN. It's eight bands, two stages and one album release. In case you aren't familiar with the bands on the bill (or the label), I've put together this handy page and Soundcloud playlist to familiarize yourself.

The End of Hollywood (As We Know It)

Great article in Vanity Fair about Why Hollywood As We Know It Is Already Over. The gist? There's a lot of hubris in the industry where the powers that be don't seem to think they'll be affected by our new age of digital everything in the same way that the music industry, book industry and news publishing industries have been. Granted, they do have the advantage of learning from past lessons but to think that spending $50+ million on a single title is going to consistently turn profits is ridiculous.

That's really just the tip of the iceberg in terms of subjects covered in the piece so, please, give it a deep dive.
