Off Camera, Greta Gerwig

posted February 8, 2017 #

I've been a fan of the Off Camera with Sam Jones series for some time - a series of relaxed conversations with actors, directors, writers and general creative folk from Hollywood being honest without being pretentious. There isn't a bad episode to start with but I've really enjoyed the insights from the Greta Gerwig episode. You can snag the podcast version for free or watch them talk it out for under two bucks.

Exploring The Art Of The No Man's Sky Vinyl

posted February 6, 2017 #

Really fascinating article and interview over at Laced with Wax discussing the No Man's Sky: Music for an Infinite Universe boxset from 65daysofstatic and Caspar (v). The complete package is beautiful and mysterious; even with having zero knowledge about the game it is connected to. I always enjoy hearing Mr. Newbolt speak about art and creativity and this quote was right up my alley:
When quizzed about the irregular, cryptic black shapes that scar the disc sleeves, Caspar is tight-lipped: "Their meaning, whilst clearly articulated between the band and I, is best left open to interpretation. The poetry of an image is everything. Just like the scene in the horror film you can only hear but not see. Your own imagination serves you better than anyone else's ever will."
Listen to the record while you discover the artwork. Great stuff.

What The Fuck Just Happened Today?

posted February 6, 2017 #

I've been feeling politically charged recently but find navigating the onslaught of information and suggestions just a bit overwhelming. Turning on Facebook or Twitter is like drinking from the fire hose. That being said, these sites have been helpful as regular reads:
  • What the Fuck Just Happened Today? - an email list (and website) that lets you know all the primary happenings for the day. The cover, courtesy of Matt Kiser, isn't necessarily unbiased but it's been pretty damn helpful so far.
  • 5 Calls - a site designed to help you pick a topic you want to have your voice heard and provide you with an script outline to get you started in terms of what to say. It's oddly crap on mobile but hopefully they'll fix that soon.
  • Call Trump Out - a very simple but very useful tool to enter your address and receive a VCF in return with all of your representatives contact numbers.

It's not that any ads are attacking Trump. It's that Trump is so outside all norms of decency that basic, bland sentiments feel anti-Trump.
