The long exposure, neon light fueled photography of
Marilyn Mugot was recently featured in
WIRED but they only scratched the surface of her body of work. I highly recommend taking a nice chunk out of your day to
fully explore everything she's posted - there's an eerie, beautiful, calm to it. It's like
Bladerunner after everyone's gone home.

Filmmaker Matt Stawski has taken on a rather ambitious project with
North of Neon - a fantasy kids show drawing deep inspiration from the likes of Terry Gilliam and practical effects fueled films like
Labyrinth or
Dark Crystal. There are loads of puppets, over the top characters and cleverly repurposed props that feel nostalgic and familiar.

Gods Teeth has a strange mix of the macabre and a sweet longing. It's a grim reaper longing for connection! Maybe that's oversimplifying but I love the style. Be sure to peruse the
Big Cartel store along with the
Instagram for the full impact.

Doing my best to continue making improvements around here. After the
last round I decided to revisit some previous decisions (i.e. no sidebar) and add a few more features. Here's the changelog of what to find new around here:
- Search - no more leveraging Google to find things in the archives. Just hit the Search option in the menu.
- Filtered RSS - Don't want to see my Twitter posts or Twitter Favorites in the RSS feed? Just use this link to filter them out.
- Comment Count - some bad SQL led to comment counts not appearing on the main feed. That's fixed.
- Comment Notification - this doesn't affect you at all but I was never being notified when new comments were coming in. Now I'll know.
-
- Promo Carousel - I assume most readers are banner blind to my self-promotion graphics but they're there and they're nicer now.
All of these are works in progress so if you happen upon a bug - please
let me know.

I love the street photography work of
Daniel Arnold. He has an uncanny knack for capturing the spirit and emotion of a particular scene, one can only assume highly covertly. He's posted around 40 images for Vogue that document the
2017 Inauguration and Women's March, a perfect juxtaposition for his sort of practice.
Keep an eye on his
Instagram for a consistent flow of goodness and updates on when his new photo sets are posted.

Before reading through this
Vulture cover story, I assumed Billy Eichner was A) Canadian and B) as loud and insane as the characters he portrays. Turns out, he is neither. He's from New York and he's actually quite tempered. It's a lengthy interview but he has honest insight on every subject thrown his way (Writing & Acting, the Facade of Celebrity, Politics, Homosexuality & Coming Out) that's cut with
just the right amount of attitude. I considered myself a casual fan before but I think I'm all in now.

I wrote a whole thing about Inauguration Day and then deleted it. And then put it back. And then deleted it again. I don't really want to go on about how horrible I feel about the incoming Administration* because I don't think anyone really cares. Those who agree with me, agree with me. Those who don't, never will. So, I'll just throw this out there:
Please, look at this. Am I wrong in thinking there is a massive disconnect from reality? Okay, that's it.
I'm posting these Friday videos as a respite from the day. A distraction. Hopefully it works.

* To be clear, I am not a sore loser that needs to "get over it" because I'd be fine with a conservative candidate defeating a liberal one. That's how Democracy works. It's this particular candidate winning that is so unsettling. As I mentioned here, I made the mistake of browsing Twitter replies last night and it's unsettlingly vitriolic. There are so many people lashing out and arguing over how Trump will bring our country back together. Let me repeat that - people are lashing out in a confrontational manner about how we're all going to come together under this new President. No sense of empathy. No sense of intelligence or compassion or understanding or even trying.
