the track "is about primal fear, like drowning, or falling endlessly in a nightmare. It makes you feel alive."

I have been a fan of
How I Became the Bomb since their earliest days. I worked on
some early artwork for them and was blown away to see their
Ulay, Oh video reach almost 30 million views - insanely impressive to say the least.
All that is to say, I'm over the moon with the results of their latest video for
Break Hearts. It hasn't hit critical mass in terms of views but it is a truly compelling piece of work. Lots of the effects are done in-camera, the story is interesting and the song is damn good. Win win win all around. Enjoy it and spread the word.

Never thought I'd see the day but Andy Baio's blog
WAXY has launched a redesign. Andy has always been a huge inspiration for myself and the kind of content I hope to surface on this blog. His longer form posts are always thoughtful and insightful and his short quicklinks are always engaging in one way or another. His thoughts on the state of blogs is exactly how I feel but, simply put, much more eloquent than I could ever be.
Congrats WAXY and thanks for the continued push to be better.

Most of the vinyl pressed for
yk records comes out of
Pirates Press, a San Francisco based company. However, they're farming all of the actual vinyl production out to the Czech Republic to a company called
GZ Media, a pressing plant that's been around since 1948. Take a moment to watch
this piece on the pressing plant and their history. Note that CEO Zdenek Pelc has been in charge since 1981 and carried the company through the barren wasteland of the 90's and made it worth over $100 million now.
But profits aside, it's fascinating to see a company that's been around for so long, making a seemingly "archaic" product continue to innovate and thrive. They're developing new vinyl pressing prototype machines! They're employing a ton of people and giving artists an outlet to create a piece of physical media that will likely far outlive them.

I didn't post a Halloween music mix this year but I did give you
plenty to
listen to. I also gave an additional
playlist of mostly Halloween jams. But if you still need more, let this be your infinite loop for the day:
Have a great Halloween!

Halloween is a visual treat no matter where you live but Halloween in NYC in the early 90's was certainly something else. This
archive of photos is a nice reminder of the kind of all-out costuming that went on. The first color photo in that set is sure to stop you in your tracks and it just gets better from there.
