Back in 2009, Andrew Brassell gave me some recordings of his music that he was recording outside of his band,
And The Relatives. I loved them and we worked together to release them as
Quick Potions, under the moniker
Slowmotions. In the seven years since that release Brassell moved to LA and has been slowly nurturing new Slowmotions songs.
With all that said, I am extremely happy to announce
The Domes, the official second album from Slowmotions. You can hear the first released song from the record,
The Joy of Nothing, and pre-order the limited edition yellow vinyl
over here. The album will be officially album October 21st. Almost seven years to the day after his first.

Mr Floppy is "a 2D platformer controlled by a real and physical floppy Disk. " You pretty much get the gist from that GIF - you control your character by forcing jumps with the shutter. This is brilliant.
You can watch more of the game in action
over here.

It's been awhile since I've revisited the photographic works of
Matthias Heiderich but his eye for capturing intense colors, mesmerizing angles and empty streets has only intensified through the years. If you aren't smitten with the colors and composition of
Spektrum Eins or the delightful whimsy of
Reflexionen Drei, you're nuts!

All art forms feed off from each other, and film is no different. More examples are shown here as an expansion of the first Film Meets Art video.
This
Film Meets Art II piece is an excellent viewing. Not much explanation is needed as the influence of fine art to film is clearly displayed. The first shot might be Slightly Unsafe For Work but maybe you can just skip ahead if you're working in a non-butt work zone.
Be sure to watch
Part 1 as well.

Been doing some cruising around learning about
Teddy Girls, a mid-1950's British youth subculture known for their Edwardian dress and general tomfoolery. They were an offshoot of
Teddy Boys, a similar group known for their outfits but more notorious for stirring up trouble. There are plenty of
informative articles about them and a rather impressive amount of
Google Images (though I suspect some are
more modern).
The photos largely stem from
Ken Russell, an aimless photographer at the time that went on to become a well respected film director. I high suggest
seeking more of his work.

I'm intrigued by the miniature work of
Amy Bennett but I can't seem to unearth much of it on her website. There's a large repository of enjoyable paintings but not much in the way of exploring her large-scale tiny worlds. Fortunately, the Internet is nothing if not a giant repository of found things - so you can see plenty of examples of the work
here,
here,
here or
even here.
I love how the pieces clearly feel like miniatures but still have an intimacy and quietness to them.
