After an extremely pleasant tweet from iCreature went out last week, I decided to check my records to see exactly when I started this site. The first database entry is marked March 6th, 2001 - exactly fifteen years ago yesterday.* It's hard to think that I've been writing posting things here for so long but the evidence doesn't lie!

I've still got plans and improvements for the site, many of which I hope come sooner than later. Thanks to everyone for reading and hopefully I can squeeze another few good years out of this.

* Technically, the site predates the database entries so I've actually been doing this even longer than 15 years but who's counting?

The North Oceanic and Atmospheric Adminstration (NOAA) currently has an exploration ship, the Okeanos Explorer, out in the Hawaiian Archipelago searching for and documenting marine life. In their short sprint out in the waters (Feb 25th to March 18th) they've already discovered a new breed of Octopus. They're playfully referring to the little guy as "Casper" and this video properly captures their excitement upon the initial sighting. Cheers to them for the new discovery and cheers to Casper for keeping himself hidden for so long.

Did you know that History channel commissioned a series of short form comedy pieces from a number of notable, enjoyable comedians? One of those undertakings is Great Minds with Dan Harmon, an absurd bit where Harmon and his assistant Spencer Crittenden bring back various people from history and interview them. It's ridiculous but it works. Watch Jack Black as Beethoven and Scott Adsit as Hemingway to wet your whistle.

I had jury duty this week and, I gotta be honest, it wasn't that bad. I was never picked for any potential jury and they provided a quiet, Wi-Fi enabled environment to sit around and wait. It could have been much much worse. The lesson here? Maybe jury duty is a nice break from your schedule? Maybe.

Enjoy the distractions - these feel somewhat lengthy this week but that's just more time for you to enjoy a quality goof about. Oh, and if you haven't added the Vandelay Industries Bot to your Slack Distractor, you should do so now.

A Complete History Of The Millennium Falcon

I do my best to stray from posting about too much Star Wars related stuff for a myriad of reasons - largely because it's covered plentifully in loads of other places. That being said, this Complete History of the Millennium Falcon is a piece that should not be missed. It is exhaustively researched, to say the very least. And, honestly, it's not really about a ship from Star Wars as much as it is about the intensity of production design for a large scale sci-fi movie, the largest of its time. Seeing the sketches turn into paintings that turn into models that turn into sets is worthwhile regardless of your level of interest in the franchise.
