Voxiebox

You know in just about any classic science fiction where there's a table that projects a 3D image and everyone walks around it inspecting it? Like a transparent monitor that anyone can see from any angle? Well, that's what Voxiebox is. A device that projects those forms into 3D space.

Clearly I don't comprehend how these holograms are being made but I greatly appreciate that they exist. I wouldn't say we've come a long way from this but we're inching towards something useful.

We Own This Town: Volume 72

posted December 21, 2015 #

Back in 2012, I published Volume 58 of the We Own This Town podcast - a collection of Christmas music from Nashville musicians. It's still an enjoyable listen (imho). Now i'm releasing Volume 72, an addendum to that compilation of great songs; worthwhile tracks that have been released since that original collection or were just simply overlooked at the time.
Oh, and another appearance from that wonderful Mouth Trumpet Christmas Album. I simply can't listen to that often enough. Continue Reading...

Fake On The Internet This Week

posted December 21, 2015 #

I just recently became aware of the Washington Post series What was fake on the Internet this week - an ongoing expose of stupid half-truths, outright lies, hoaxes, exaggerations and hate. It's unfortunate that I am just becoming aware of it because this is the final column. The piece goes into great detail about why hoaxes and lies are so popular on the Internet - largely their profitability. But, moreso, it speaks to the tipping point in Internet irrationality. Have we crossed the line? Are we isolating ourselves into a narrow hallway of only our own beliefs?

To say the least, it is a fascinating read.

Jacob Magraw-Mickelson

I am familiarizing myself with the work of Jacob Magraw-Mickelson and loving what I'm seeing so far. There's a vibrant color palette and a somewhat chaotic feel to alot it but also somewhat organic - as in, much of the work appears to be informed by animal and plant cell structures. Maybe I'm projecting but that's what I'm getting from it and I'm rather enjoying it.

His blog features a lot more recent work and plenty of nods to other great artists.
