Really loving the works of Greg Kletsel, a man "raised on a steady diet of Ren & Stimpy, X-Men and TGIF in Coral Springs, FL." He currently resides in Brooklyn and makes a smattering of pop culture references in his zines and illustrations. There's a ton of work to shift through but be sure not to miss the Junk Food vs Healthy Food battle or anything else on his blog.

I hit up the Brooklyn Zine Fest this weekend and was greeted with an onslaught of talent from an incredible array of styles. Once such talent was Arielle Jovellanos, an illustrator with an incredible knack for expression and character design. The Illustration and Sequential sets from her official portfolio are not to be missed (also, a bit of Bee and Puppy Cat). She also has a worthwhile blog which I suggest you dive into.

Brooklyn Peaches: Climate Change Is Real - I am sure their hearts are in the right place but stuff like this exactly how Brooklyn gets its reputation for being completely absurd. If this is parody (and I hope it is), there is no sign of the tongue-in-cheek nature.
Splurt - #OMW2SYG (Swiggity Swooty) - Endurance Challenge #1 - I couldn't make it. Unbelievable. via Falfa
Life's Short. Stunt It! - Best of the week, easily. These kids are extreme and flaunt it perfectly.
Moaning - "The Same" (OFFICIAL) - remember music videos in the 90's with a bunch of slacker kids tearing up a place and having a generally good, but generally chaotic, time? No need to recall, those days are back. I don't disapprove.
Good Scratch - quite possibly the best new Internet Superstar. Those lyrics are on point! via John
What if Man of Steel was IN COLOR? - interesting argument for going for a more natural color correction in the Superman movies. I like it.
Rebel Force Band - Living In These Star Warz - Endurance Challenge #2 - an oddly enjoyable funk album centered around Star Wars characters written by people that I'm convinced ever saw the movie. At least listen to the Wookie Song just for the sound effects.

If you need more, just watch Magic Carpet Cat for a few hours. It never ceases to be entertaining.

The subject matter of the Species in Pieces site is rather sad - a showcase of the world's most endangered species. 30 of the world's animals closest to being wiped off the planet permanently. Pretty crazy. They do a phenomenal job of making the subject matter compelling by drawing each animal with only 30 geometric pieces - shape shifting into one another as you traverse the list. Being informed on the matter is nice but it is rough to know there's not a whole lot you can do. Ultimately, it's a real bummer! But it's well done so you can at least educate yourself and try to enjoy the ride.

There is a wonderful selection of photographs from German photographer Sarah Bernhard but I'm particularly drawn to the Lighthouse series - there's an alluring simplicity to alot of it that I find rather stunning. The rest of the portfolio is enjoyable but the black-and-white captures really have something special.
