Poster Club

I'm loving what's going on over at Poster Club - a Glasglow collective of friends and designers who pick a random word and then illustrate openly on a theme. "Deconstruct" comes up as the word of choice - how about a cheeseburger exploding? or type exploding? or fallen magnet letters? The possibilities are endless and the styles cover a wide range. Definitely looking forward to more work and, hopefully, some prints making their way out into the world.

Mini Mansions - Any Emotions

posted January 15, 2015 #

I can safely say that I played Mini Mansions first single from their new album, Death is a Girl in the heaviest of rotations and I'm still not tired of it. So, when I saw that they released a new track and video for Any Emotions, I was in. The one take video features Colin Hanks going through a range of emotions, landing on absolute bonkers by the end of it. It's yet another reason to be excited for The Great Pretenders, out in March.

365 - One Year, One Film, One Second A Day

posted January 14, 2015 #

It's been out for awhile but this 365 short film from The Brothers McLeod is a treat - as random as the vignettes are.
Greg animated one second of animation every day for the 365 days of the year 2013. There was no storyline, script or storyboard. The ideas come from things read, seen or experienced on the day, with a little artistic license for good measure.
How's that for taking Make Something Every Day to the next level?

Chris Schoonover

Been diving into the portfolio of Chris Schoonover and enjoying what I'm seeing. I'm partial to the more ambiguous captures and various snaps of huge backdrops (i.e. that Royal Palms flamingo background).

Gotham 7.5k

Vincent Laforet recently took a high-flying helicopter ride over NYC and shared these nighttime NYC shots. There is no image under 2500px wide that can do them justice. The lights of Times Square at night, the intensely fluorescent hues of city lights and the veins of street lights are certainly entrancing say the very least.

Autumn De Wilde

posted January 13, 2015 #

Despite my regular abuse of hyperbole on this site I'm going to go ahead and say that the work of Autumn de Wilde is phenomenal. There are lots of familiar, famous faces in the mix but that's not the impressive part - the work is perfectly saturated when it needs to be, stark and bold when it's called for and often lit in a properly ethereal way.

Given this list of client work I am sure she is a household name among photography fans but if you've managed to miss connecting the dots like I have, take some time today to pour through the blog.

Talking with Karen Mullarkey

posted January 12, 2015 #

Take some time to read this Vantage piece on Karen Mullarkey - From Mad Men Secretary to One of the Best Picture Editors of All Time. Her journey through the ranks of Life Magazine is exactly what you see depicted on Mad Men - being forced to be a secretary, making drinks for the men and being told to be silent. However, there were champions among that misogyny that pushed her career to become of the best photo editors and it really is a fascinating tale to hear.
