SlyPhone

posted September 13, 2013 #

The SlyPhone uses the same technology a periscope employs - mirrors to redirect a view - to enable you to take photos in a spy like fashion. Could this be abused in terrible ways? Probably. Could it also enable you to take sly shots of ridiculous things without being conspicuous about it? You betcha. You can download the lasercutter paths for the design on their site or wait for them to go on sale in the near future.

Friends of the site Upright T-Rex (Ross of Uncle Skeleton and Cody of Nahnee Bori) did the music for the promo and Erica Gorochow did the animation. It's like it's already vetted and it doesn't even exist yet!

Summer Mix Series 2013 Closing Soon

posted September 13, 2013 #

I will admit to having done a poor job of promoting the Summer Mix Series this year. That being said, there are a lot of great compilations of music floating around over there that you may be missing out on. The site will close next Friday so if you've been kicking yourself to get a mix finished, better get it done this weekend. I may move the festivities over to Reddit afterwards but it's unclear if I'll have the proper time to curate!

tl;dr - Summer Mix Series closes in one week, be aware.

Escape From Tomorrow Trailer

posted September 12, 2013 #

I remember hearing about Escape from Tomorrow when I was at Sundance. It's a black-and-white film shot guerilla style at Disney World... complete under the radar of Disney staff. The story is that of a father losing his mind at the park, complete with demonic visions and psychedelic visuals. There were some major doubts if it would ever be released (still are) but the first trailer is out and it looks awesome. I hope this finds its way out into the world, it looks great.

Serious Jibber-Jabber with The Simpsons

posted September 12, 2013 #

It's unfortunate that there's not a way to download for offline / more convenient viewing but that's my only complaint regarding this episode of Serious Jibber-Jabber with Conan O'Brien and the staff of the original Simpsons writers - Al Jean, Mike Reiss, Jay Kogen and Jeff Martin. It's a compelling bit of history and, honestly, great to see so many hilarious friends just having a fun time together.

Journaliere

posted September 11, 2013 #

Artist Mason Lindroth recently finished the game Journaliere, an exploration game that takes a commuter through a surreal landscape. The vibe is part claymation, part 2-bit pixel art and part Beetlejuice. It's crazy but it works perfectly. If you're able to beat the game within the game, let me know. I couldn't do it. After you've played through the main story, hit up Lindroth's blog for more colorful versions within the same vibe. All of it's great.

Georges Rousse Illusions

posted September 10, 2013 #

French artist Georges Rousse has a collection of perfectly executed optical illusions that I can't look away from. At first glance you'd swear they were digital manipulations but that's too easy. Viewed from any other angle these wouldn't work but the perfect photo makes for a surreal peek into another realm. Check out more results here, here and here.

Coast Browser

posted September 10, 2013 #

I've not tried it out yet but Coast looks to be a pretty well thought out browser for your tablet. Mostly, I love the interaction on the site with the rotating iPad responding to scrolling through the site. It's a clever takeover with an effective impact. If the application is half as good as the website, it'll be worth the download.

Arcade Fire: "Reflektor"

nearly 8 minutes and i wasn't bored for a moment. Maybe it's 'obvious' to love these guys but they haven't dropped the ball yet as far as I'm concerned.
