I am blown away by the enjoyability of these mixtapes from The Teenage Head. Great variety of new stuff, old stuff and everything in between. Oh, and it's on iTunes, so new ones can be auto downloaded. Sweet.

Loving the work of Cosimo Galluzzi; particularly the animated works. The Ancient Sci-Fi Worlds angle never gets old to me and he's got it down perfectly. Particularly when technology is involved - it always feel appropriate for the surroundings. Be sure to browse the official portfolio and follow the blog for maximum goodness.

It's short and sweet but I love these images from Jean Jullien's latest show. The prints show off even more of the work - it's perfectly simple and fun.

The Kickstarter project for Hyper Light Drifter, a new 16-bit-esque game paying homage to the mechanics of Zelda, Metroid, etc - has blown away it's intended goal. They've exceeed $200k already and still have 25 days to go. All of this is to say, you still have a chance to get in on the ground floor or, at the very least, appreciate the artwork on a level beyond "cool video game." It's remarkable work.

I've heard of the Walled City of Kowloon previously but this photo essay inside the boundaries is blowing my mind. It looks to be straight out of a Jean-Pierre Jeunet movie! Unbelievable. And also incredibly sad that people are living in these conditions but that's neither here nor there.

The thinking behind PhoneBloks is worthwhile - creating a phone that can be easily upgraded and strives to avoid becoming obsolete by making individual components exchangeable. The intro video does a great job of spelling out how they propose for it to work. The biggest hurdle, of course, is getting companies on board with a gameplan that would, essentially, destroy the cycle of new products and plan upgrades. It's hard to imagine that happening but they're striving to make it happen.

Marc Hermann is a legitimate photojournalist documenting a great deal of modern day activities. In his free time he has scoured the New York Daily News image archive and created these amazing blended images of Vintage Crime Scene Photos with Modern NYC Streets. There's a bit of harrowing imagery at play but it's worth checking out. Might be a good opportunity to investigate some history as well.

The weeks are flying by. What is it they say about burning the candle at both ends? Do it constantly? I hope that's what they say. Here's your playlist - a bit on the short side this week but I think you'll find something compelling in there.

• Vince Gill confronts Westboro Baptist - even if you have zero interest in Vince Gill or Westboro Baptist (understandably), this is pretty phenomenal. The soft spoken country artist gently calls these idiots out with some of the best zingers I've heard in awhile. Love it.
• Quasi - See You On Mars - some amazing vintage clips paired with a new Quasi song. You should require little else.
• Dumb Blonde - the first Catch Fail is the best. Stop watching after 15 seconds but really enjoy that first fifteen.
• The Scarecrow - Chipotle launched this promo video for their new game and it's intense. Like, seriously dark for a burrito chain.
• Danielle - astonishing animation of emulated aging. It's 5 minutes of slowly perceptible growth... unbelievable.
• Joking Bad - typically I wouldn't link a Jimmy Fallon short film but this is pretty well done if you're a Breaking Bad fan. And, honestly, if you don't love this you need to re-evaluate your life.
• COIN - Yea, that's right! A repost of an earlier blog posting because if you haven't seen this yet, you really need to watch it now.

Need some entertainment this weekend? Please allow me to make some recommendations:

• Downloaded - a documentary on the story of Napster, directed by Alex Winter. Not only is Napster culturally relevant to anyone using the Internet (that's you) but it's the perfect subject for a film because it has a clear start, middle and end to the tale. There's plenty of amazing footage of both the original team of developers and musicians speaking their mind about the landscape changes they were forcing on the world (Trent Reznor has a particularly enjoyable moment).
• Rewind This! - a documentary on the culture of VHS. This is another subject with a fairly clear start and finish. Though there are many that still, rightfully, hold on to the allure of the video cassette tape. Lots of amusing characters, absurd clips and proper explanation of the cultish personalities involved. Oh, and that poster is unbelievable.

Both films come with plenty of exclusive bonus material, so please keep that in mind when pondering price points.
