What a week! Launched a couple sites (more on that next week) and the Summer Mix Series is still going strong. Get that whistling mix! Here's your weekly dose of distraction.

• Franz Ferdinand - Right Action - this video was, obviously, designed to be a big hit on the Internet. Paying homage to Saul Bass and Penguin Books is a match made in Tumblr heaven.
• Everything Is Festival - I've been diving into the offerings of Cinefamily blog lately and ran across this trailer for their festival teamup with Everything Is Terrible. It's absurd in the best way.
• Weird Korean Commercial Compilation - of course I'm posting this. It's probably not going to hold your attention but it's worth a scrub through. via Paul.
• Robot Jox - how is there a prequel to Pacific Rim that I was unaware of? Davis has seen it and I imagine it's far more unwatchable than the trailer is.
• Beats vs Bots - when Drafthouse does a supercut, you should pay attention.
• Sloth + Hair - this pretty much embodies what we think of when we think of laziness and sloth being synonyms.
• Booty in the Air - @Dormtainment - do not even try to comprehend the purpose of this video. Just enjoy that it exists.

There is an absurd variety of hand drawn type over at David Fosters Twitter Calligraphy project. I can't link to any of the entries directly but there are too many good ones to point out anyway. It's an excellent repository and worth spending some quality Stare Time with each entry.

If you're an avid NPR listener, you're probably already familiar with Carolyn Hopkins, the voice of most public service announcements. Regardless of that, there's plenty of new information to glean from this great article on how Mrs. Hopkins - and the male voice counterpart Jack Fox - came into being the predominant voice heard in subways, airports and loads of other places. Surprisingly, it starts with R&B music coming out of Louisville, KY and a little startup called IED.

Loving this animated piece from Jack Hudson, "Bobby and the Bouncy Bubble Car". Apparently it's a collab with Joe Birchard with more on the way. Can't wait to see the results.

The collage work of Joseba Eloraza, aka Miraruido. The Spanish illustrator has great pieces like Astronaut or Fly Alone but I'm mostly entranced by the video collages - as it's not something you encounter very regularly. It's the next evolution of found images... found videos.

Ignorance is not always bliss. According to this blog and mounds of examples from What Netflix Do, everyone's favorite streaming service has been quietly recropping, repanning and readjusting loads of movies to fit your screen. Is this within their right to do so? I don't see how not. Is it aggravating to know that when you watch There Will Be Blood you're going to get a very awkward crop instead of the original image? Yes, definitely.

Does this seem relatively strange to anyone else? I recall when this would happen in the 80's because TV sets were 4:3 ratio and movies were 16:9 - so a Pan and Scan could be rationalized. This strikes me as unnecessary and probably more work for someone along the chain? Very weird.

Adam was recently talking about the hidden "Mom" wording tucked inside the new Wendy's logo. News to me! Actually, the designers deny it and it's probably just a happy accident.

However, a lot of logos do have hidden content and meaning. Check out this gallery of examples. Some are obvious, some are questionable and some are crazy clever. How had I never seen the bear inside the Toblerone mountain before? And kudos to Tostitos for throwing a cool chip party right inside their branding.
