Ignorance is not always bliss. According to
this blog and mounds of examples from
What Netflix Do, everyone's favorite streaming service has been quietly recropping, repanning and readjusting loads of movies to fit your screen. Is this within their right to do so? I don't see how not. Is it aggravating to know that when you watch
There Will Be Blood you're going to get a very
awkward crop instead of the original image? Yes, definitely.
Does this seem relatively strange to anyone else? I recall when this would happen in the 80's because TV sets were 4:3 ratio and movies were 16:9 - so a Pan and Scan could be rationalized. This strikes me as unnecessary and probably more work for someone along the chain? Very weird.
