The above video for the band Pretty and Nice is the first single off their new album Golden Rules for Golden People. I just heard of this band a week ago and I've been quickly familiarizing myself with their entire catalog. If you're into bands like Self, Pattern Is Movement, etc then this will be exactly up your alley. Lots of pop, lots of quick changes, lots of energy, all enjoyable. Dive in!

As you can guess from the title, 9 Film Frames distills a movie down to nine distinct frames. It's pretty interesting to see the choices made for movies you are familiar with and, maybe even more interesting, to see the films you're less familiar with.

Paper recently undertook the task of adding Zoom to their drawing software but found all the existing solutions subpar. So, they undertook it for themselves and wrote rather exhaustive profile on the task. It's oddly refreshing to read through the amount of work and rational thinking that goes into something as seemingly obvious as a zoom control.

As you know, I don't post a ton of personal news here on the blog.. as I assume it's too boring to be worth sharing. However, I've decided to make the plunge and officially move up to Brooklyn so I can be closer to my VHX cohorts. I'll be staying in Carroll Gardens and, likely, eating a whole lot more pizza (if that's possible).

It's an incredibly scary endeavor for me but I'm excited to take things to the next level at work. And, if we're being open and honest, it's been on my To Do list for a good 10+ years to live somewhere outside of Middle Tennessee. I've needed to do this for some time. I'm sure it will work out just fine.

I don't really plan on changing the blog up once I'm up there - though I will probably retire my duties at We Own This Town, as it feels strange to administer from afar - so things around here should continue as normal. I'll just be posting more photos of subway tunnels and graffiti. As you do.

Take some time today to read this great lookback on Tumblr from Marco Arment. It's great to hear insight from an individual that has worked side-by-side with Tumblr founder David Karp since 2006. Honestly, whatever happens to Tumblr happens to Tumblr - it's not the end of the world either way. I think it will be fascinating to watch it all go down. However, it's nice to think that maybe Yahoo really will be a bit hands off and let statements like this ring true:

We - internet users, creative people, publishers, socializers - will be much better served if David can focus on his product's features, design, and messaging instead of worrying about server architecture and raising more money.

Jed said it best - Yahoo is really doing a good job of buying cool this week. Hot on the heels of their Tumblr acquisition is the relaunched Flickr. Not only are the majority of pages completely overhauled but they're also giving every user a free terabyte of space. This is the sort of Internet Upgrade we can all get used to.
