This is likely old news to most of you but I just encountered the Timehop app yesterday thanks to Daniel. While I'm typically wary of any app that seems to prey on nostalgia too much, I like that it's a passive endeavor. You sync up your Facebook / Twitter accounts and it alerts you every day what you were doing 365 days previous. It's just a quick glance back - pleasant.
Uncle Skeleton recently collaborated with The Stowaways on their single "BATTLES" to create an original remix. You can hear it here or buy it here. Hopefully this is the sort of thing that becomes a regular occurrence in the world of Uncle Skeleton.
Showing art in a coffee shop is a tough racket. Sure, you may get exposed to a lot of people but it's not exactly the ideal viewing environment. It also tends to be home to a lot of artists who haven't quite found their voice yet. Regardless, sometimes there are success stories in that realm so it's certainly worth it.
Long story short, I encountered the work of Daniel Holland at my local coffee shop recently and found myself engaged by a good bit of it. I'm curious to see more.
In support of the full-length album Place (and its forthcoming record release celebration), here is the video for Nahnee Bori's "The Fiery Serf." It's a loose narrative told with old science videos and various vintage cartoons. When the song lets loose it's a perfect visual pairing.
It's unfortunate that the record was released so late in 2012 because I think it got buried in End Of Year wrapup. More people need to know of it as it really is a phenomenal piece of work.. Hopefully this video helps spread the word.
Are you familiar with Vine? It's an iOS application that lets you create very short mini-movies - sort of like Cinemagram but with actual video instead of GIFs. VinePeek - a realtime stream of the latest content posted in real time. You may encounter something like weird Vader or crazy dancing or just quiet moments. It's a really entrancing, voyeuristic, collection of slices of life.* The work that people put into making mini-movies is pretty impressive and cute at times.
* it's an unmoderated stream, so be warned that you will occasionally see something inappropriate. It's rare but it happens.
Combine this with ASCIImeo and your web experience edges closer to be 100% ASCII. It might feel a bit Matrix-y at times but this ASCII Street View is pretty awesomely impressive. Refresh the page for random locations or head to one of your own favorite specific areas.

Without looking at the actual content, you'd assume the site of Chris Boddy was presenting a series of finely designed works by a designer with a penchant for the simple yet engaging. However, it's actually a portfolio of copywriting works - a trick well worth investing into. Love the whole thing from the opening animation to the easy background changes on mouse hover. We should all be so lucky to have sites this nice.
Over the weekend I installed a suite of Plex tools - the Media Server, the Media Center and the Mobile controller. All are incredibly well done - particularly the mobile app - but I'm still confused as to how the experience is superior to just browsing a list of well organized files. Yes, there is cover art occasionally. No, it doesn't seem as smart as my own ability to name a folder and put in a folder. I think I may just be missing one ingredient - PlexSync, for watching any of your media on any device, anywhere. Can't argue with that.
