Back in August, I told you about Nahnee Bori, aka Cody Uhler aka the other half of Kindercastle that isn't Uncle Skeleton. His full-length album, Place, is now available via my own little label.

I am really into the record for a number of reasons. First and foremost, I love the music. It's a crazy mixture of catchy pop, melancholy stretches, humorous insights and legitimate moving movements (for me). Secondly, I'm also really proud of how the cover art turned out and think it's going to look absolutely gorgeous as a printed piece.

Please go listen and really spend some time with it. If you need a good intro, start with Singing to the Night or Pass the Salt but, seriously, every song is incredibly strong and enjoyable. I hope you feel the same way.

Deep North is an immersive sculpture piece consisting of a frozen solid home and all of it's interior contents. I can't imagine the sub-zero working conditions being all too pleasant to create this but based on the results, I'd say it was worth it. Swing by this Burnet Gallery to see even more photos from the installation.

Daniel gave me the heads up on PSDDD, a repository of free goods from various Dribbble users. There's a wide range of resources - social icons, Computer mockups, general ideas, brushes and a ton more. I'm on the fence about actually using some of them without altering them heavily first (seems like stolen work) but it's a great starting point.

I dunno if I find this repository of Charts from the Senate floor hysterical or infuriating. On the one hand, poorly made, oversized charts are inherently amusing. On the other hand, it's hugely wasteful in a number of ways and could easily be accomplished with a laptop and a giant screen.

Looks like you could make your own if you felt so inclined as well!

I've just stumbled across the documentary The Startup Kids, a look at startup culture and many of the people directly involved with it. Their list of interviewees is impressive! Just based on a few of the anecdote snippets in the trailer I'm pretty interested to see this. Seems like Startup Culture actually has a lot of good and bad surrounding it but, either way, its an interesting world with a lot of people working very hard to create something.

British maritime engineer Dan Fisher was lucky enough to spot a real rarity recently - a legitimate white humpback whale. There's even video of the beast swimming along with his pod.

This Sight & Sound essay takes a look at the works of Paul Thomas Anderson (excluding The Master) and discusses their usage of Steadicam / tracking shots. The films Hard Eight, Boogie Nights, Magnolia, Punch Drunk Love and There Will Be Blood are all included (with examples). It may not be anything you haven't noticed yourself already but it's nice to have them all compiled into one essay.

I knew there was some way for browsers to access your computer camera and microphone but I'd never seen it implemented. Thanks to Geoff's heads up on FaceKat I can finally see it in action. It's a ridiculous undertaking to dodge those space orbs by physically moving around at your desk but that's the fun of it. Go see how you do.

OFFF, let's feed the future

A doozie of a playlist this week with plenty of extras if you're looking for more.

• Potion Overdose - great special effects and a hilarious, realistic, take on all those magic potions. Disgusting in the best way.
• GoPro Laser Cats - uh, yes please.
• Haunted Toaster - this starts off hilarious, then gets real absurd and then gets unbelievably amazing. Best part is the "Why have you kept this toaster?"
• Stevie - I felt ill watching this so I'm spreading the discomfort on to you. No one should do this or make that sound while doing it.
• Parents upset over SNES - a mostly lame news report on videogame concerns circa 1991 that just so happens to have some excellent green screen effects. So bad it's good.
• "Call Me Maybe" from Carly Rae Jepsen - is this terrible? Yes. Is it unwatchable? Yep. Is it but one video in a slew of many? You betcha. Enjoy.
• Alec Greven - How To Talk to Girls - listen, I understand that little boys talking about adult things is always going to sound creepy but dating advice from a nine-year-old is extra tough.
• Why Doesn't MTV Play Music Videos Anymore? - Network exec Michael Destiny tells it like it is in the most aggressively a**hole way possible. Also, everything he says is true.
• Obama's Victory Dance - terrible song but the quote at at the top sold me. Also, enthusiastic dancing in a creepy mask; how am I not going to share that?

When I was told that Self was reuniting for a one-off show this December I was shocked. Mahaffey had played some acoustic sets under the moniker and I assumed that meant the full band style rock show had gone away. Fortunately, this Benefit Show at Exit/In is proof that those days aren't entirely gone.. not quite yet. Oh, and then they went and posted a new music sampler. Maybe they aren't gone for good after all? Long story short, no matter how much time passes between full live shows or proper album releases, I'm still a fan. If you're in the same realm, I suggest you get tickets and join in.. it'll probably be awhile before it happens again.

Radio Soulwax is phenomenal. We all know this by now, right? The hour long mixes are always top notch. So, when they released Dave - sixty minutes of nothing but David Bowie, I knew it was going to be great. Turns out, it's great. The surprising part is that they also shot an original video - not just animation - to go along with it. Start listening now.

Be forewarned, enjoying this will lead you down a path to plenty of other great aural commitments.
