Hey, It's Xmas
It's that time of year again! The Christmas music is probably already haunting you everywhere you go .Fortunately, there are projects like Hey, It's Christmas to alleviate the pain. Volume 3 features fifteen different bands doing alternate takes, new creations and classic interpretations of all sorts of holiday tunes.

Ourvice

Ourvice
Browsing the Ourvice portfolio stopped me in my tracks. The unique lettering for every project, the astonishingly fluid animations and interaction on every slide are definitely worthy of pause. I will admit that I had a hard time finding actual screenshots or examples of the work they are trying to showcase (the Info button in the bottom is the key - and there's not really screenshots; also key). Despite that, I love the style and immersive experience.

Prototyping On Paper

POP
I haven't actually used it yet but I love the idea behind this Pop App - aka Prototyping On Paper. Basically you draw what you envision a site to look like and then POP app creates interactive prototypes out of those drawings. It's silly but it's a great balance between Quick Idea on Paper and Polished Idea Inside The Device.

Friday Videos - Nov 22nd, 2012 (Early Thanksgiving Edition)

posted November 22, 2012 #

Happy Thanksgiving! I assume my US readers are off doing family things and gorging themselves on loads of food. I plan on doing just exactly that myself. Enjoy the playlist and go have another listen to that Nahnee Bori record.
  • The Perfect Guide to Holiday Etiquette - a Buzzfeed video is legitimately funny? Yep, it's true. It just gets weirder and weirder as it goes. Delightful.
  • Panda Baby Surprise - it may be cruel to spook such an adorable beast but the reaction is worth it.
  • Rob Ford plays football - total honesty policy, I don't know who Rob Ford is and I play football exactly as well as this.
  • Keep Austin Weird - Well played TV reporter. Well played drunk passerby. via flux-rad.
  • 7th Heaven Marijuana Parody - music can make or break an edit. This is so amazingly perfect.
  • Gotham High - this is kinda long and pretty weird but the further you watch it, the more clever you deem it and the more work you realize went into it. It's a hearty chuckle for sure.
  • Bill & Ted Air Guitar Supercut - Maybe you need a break from family and these two can provide the levity? Maybe you need an endurance challenge of some sort? Maybe you need a nostalgic onslaught? This works however you'd like.
If you need more, you know where to go. Have a great weekend.

We Own This Town: Volume 57

We Own This Town
Remember last month when I said Nashville was full of surprises? Well, this 57th edition of the podcast continues that line of thinking - tons of music that the casual listener from the outside world wouldn't think was emitting from our fine city. It leans a little heavier on the electronic side than past editions but there's still a good dose of pop, rock and a dash of country in there too.

Indie Game: The Movie: The Case Study

The Case Study
If you've got some free time coming up (and I know you do), please take a moment to read through this great series of articles; Indie Game: The Movie: The Case Study. Filmmakers James and Lissane go through a four piece study of their own film and share what worked best for them. They cover a lot of ground in their Overview, Tech & Audience, Theatrical & Tour, and Digital Distribution articles. Each piece is peppered with We're Not Louis CK and You Can Be, Too! - a healthy reminder that being Already Famous isn't the path to success but, rather, slowly building an audience is.

Serious Jibber-Jabber

Serious Jibber-Jabber
Looks like Conan O'Brien has launched a new web series called Serious Jibber-Jabber in which he sits down with a Person of Interest and shoots the breeze for awhile. Seems sort of like Alec Baldwin's podcast - in which I mean to say it seems like a great idea. Take some time to watch the Judd Apatow episode. It's quite lengthy but there are lots of interesting gems of information in there - including the fact that The Simpsons are making an episode

Tiny Barbarian

Oh, how I wish this (potentially) forthcoming Tiny Barbarian game was headed for the Mac platform. The gameplay looks awesome, the Kickstarter is totally sincere and sensible and the publishing house is called StarQuail! How great is that?

Actually, I'm going to back it anyway just out of the pure hope that it comes to a device that I can properly enjoy it on.

Laurindo Feliciano

Laurindo Feliciano
The work of Laurindo Feliciano continues the great visual tradition of the likes of Beast Magazine - it's an aesthetic that I don't have another proper name for, so that's the only touchstone I can point you towards. The color palette is desaturated, the subject matter is collaged, intentional, sometimes ridiculous or macabre but always interesting.

After you've totally consumed the portfolio (rightfully so) be sure to cruise the shop to see if there's a potential wall adornment waiting for you.

Hurricane Sandy Pictometry

Pictometry Sandy
Great collection of Pictometry comparisons regarding Hurricane Sandy showing the Before and After satellite photos from the storm. The Rockaway Point neighborhood fire is certainly among the most striking but the Ocean County amusement park destruction is no small matter either. Love the sliding tool for direct comparisons, even if the end result is revealing devastation.

The Productivity Owl

Productivity Owl
To me, the Productivity Owl is two things. First and foremost, it's a tool to force you to stop lollygagging around on the Internet. Secondly, it's a hilarious literal interpretation of someone keeping an eye on you - in this case a wizened owl who is dedicated to keeping you on task. I haven't used it yet but I definitely love the concept.
