The team at SumAll have done a great thing - created a tool that mixes social analytics with sales reports. Granted, that might sound entirely boring on the surface but to have the ability to legitimately track a post from a social network to a sale is herculean task. Even if you've zero interest in the actual product I recommend poking around the site as it's extremely well design and has a super slick experience from signup to connecting tools. They've also got a rather informative blog if you're looking for a bit more insight.

The likelihood of my ever getting to tour the depths of NASA's Kennedy Space Center are slim to none. However, thanks to the Almighty Google, there's a solution. They've documented the whole thing with Street View so you can explore everywhere. It's not quite the same as being a legit scientist or astronaut but at least you can digitally roam the same halls.

I recently heard about the Dibbuk Box; a cursed winebox from the concentration camps of World War II containing a Dybbuk, or Jewish spirit, that brings plague and malice to everyone that encounters it. The story and History are, unsurprisingly, questionable but it's a great contemporary campfire story to have under your hat. Also, just as bonus trivial information, turns out that new Sam Raimi produced film The Possession is based on the tale of this haunted box. So, if Sam Raimi finds it interesting; you probably should too, right?

I've known Pete Rodman in some form or another since 1991. We aren't as in touch now as we used to be but, thanks to the power of the Internets, I can catch up on his photojournalist career and follow along with his latest captures. While I appreciate those that pursue photography as a purely artistic endeavor, I think there's something altogether unique about the career of a photojournalist. The images they capture are every bit as artistic and impressive but, one assumes, they're entirely of the moment. Snooze for a moment and you've missed the perfect capture. There's something about that immediacy that really impresses me. Also, you see some crazy stuff.

Hopefully this isn't much of an issue for anyone you know but, regardless, it's interesting to think about. As we move forward it won't be uncommon to have a library of 10,000 books or 100,000 songs that represent our personalities - online and off. But who inherits that collection when you pass? Or, more importantly, is that even an issue? The article in question points out that buying music digitally is really only buying a license for that copy of the song - you don't really own anything. But that's true of CD's as well and there's no issue of passing them around. Could you bequeath your digital goods when you pass? What representation of our digital rights do we actually have?

Long story short, it's probably more interesting to debate on a technical level than to worry about from a practical standpoint.

Today I am super happy to announce the addition of Nahnee Bori to the yk records roster of artists. It's a sensible addition given that the man behind the music, Cody Uhler, was half of the songwriting duo Kindercastle and constant collaborator of Uncle Skeleton. So, I'll be putting out his album Place in the not-too-distant future but, for now, we're releasing a preview single for the track "Iditarod" - a compelling example of the kind of longform, experimental, electronic pop music that Nahnee Bori is bringing to the table.

I have a ton to say on how excited I am for this release but I know how much the Internet adores brevity - so I'll just let you know that there are remixes from Uncle Skeleton and Shaboi, as well as two phenomenal b-sides that go along with this single. Please listen and download, I really think it's a great compilation.

Evolution is an animated commissioned by the History of the Arts Centre in Melbourne Australia designed specifically for the custom 6" x 1" LED screens in their brand new Hamer Hall. I'm often a fan of strange aspect ratios for videos but this somehow seems more appropriate being so wide. The folks at Dirty Puppet did an incredible job creating a gorgeous animation inside a limited palette on a strangely shaped canvas. Well done.

For a moment I got rather excited when I saw this blurb about a connection between backlit displays and melatonin production - namely that looking at an ipad in the dark will make it harder for you to fall asleep. The study looks legit (and has some great sci-fi photos to boot) but was only conducted with 13 individuals - maybe that's a decent sample size but it seems fairly tiny when you think about the number of backlit display devices out there. Regardless, I think we're going to start seeing a lot more research in this realm.. computers and our natural order are strange bedfellows to say the least.

SimpleWeather is a super easy to use jQuery plugin that enables you to add the weather conditions for any area. You can use natural language (i.e. "Nashville, TN") or specific zipcodes. Maybe if I get my act together and renovate MobileEats for a third time I will implement this. Kind of inspiring actually...

Over the weekend, Neil Armstrong passed away. Sadly, Space Exploration doesn't have quite the same impact with my generation as it did with prior as they experienced it first hand. Neil Armstrong was the first human to step foot on the Moon (and only twelve other people have since), the first human to step foot on another planet entirely and definitely one of the few human beings, ever, to have their words immortalized throughout time. He lived to the age of 82 and left a great mark on the entire world - definitely worth a moment's reflection from all of us.

Duelity is a short film / motion graphics undertaking / split screen that "tells both sides of the story of Earth’ s origins in a dizzying and provocative journey through the history and language that marks human thought." The dueling narrators both sound like raving lunatics but the animations are compellingly superb. A very enjoyable watch.

• Move Your Feet - great writeup from Matt Swanson regarding grabbing the inspiration to dive into a new project, language, undertaking of any kind. Basically it's the Nike slogan but told from an actual person, not a corporate giant trying to sell you shoes - so it actually resonates.
• Pow via Virtual Machine - handy little tip to help you serve localized Pow development branches into a Virtual Machine. This is pretty essential for doing Windows testing on a Mac... and oh so easy.

• Game of Thrones theme sung by a cat - Honestly, I've yet to actually watch Game of Thrones but I will always appreciate a good cover of a theme song as performed by frantic cat meows. Always.
• Godzilla Swimmer - is this video old now that the Olympics are over? Yep. Is it hilariously weird and timeless? Absolutely.
• Camera Shutter Synced with Helicopter Blade Frequency - means that the blades never spin. Super weird looking. Almost as good as these bizarre sync videos. via Chris.
• Embarassing Dad at Electronic Music Festival - there isn't a single aspect of this that isn't entirely perfect. I'd say it's too good to be to true but that's just being pessimistic. Love it. Thank you Paige.
• Tito Flips - the enthusiasm and instant rebound of this pup's playtime is something we can all learn from.
• Tommy Lee Jones Rainbow Mtn Advert - there's a lot to love in this commercial. The silent Tommy Lee Jones. His apparent magical healing powers. His forelorn look out the window. So serious.
• Insane in the Chromatophores - pardon the cockroach image at the start but these cells reacting to music is pretty great. It's a bit of science and a bit of fun. Spread the word.

Never before have you seen a police department news page as beautifully designed and executed as Milwaukee Police News. Sure, the real department page is as straightforward as you'd expect but this news site didn't hold back - loads of vertical parallax, clean layouts, subtle animations, actual helpful news and an experience you want to keep engaging with.

A 7-pound parcel has been sitting in a museum in central Norway for 100 years waiting to be opened. The instructions to keep it sealed were left by Johan Nygaard, Otta's first mayor, and no one has a clue what is inside. At 11am EST there will be a broadcast of the unveiling. It's almost a shame to open it...

Tumblr Storyboard has been featuring some work from Megan McIsaac in her Creators of LA profiles. The latest is a quick interview with Adam Lisagor aka Lonely Sandwich aka Sandwich Video. There's even contemplative b-sides to the photo shoot. I'm a fan of both these folks and it's nice to see them working together, even if it was happenstance.

GoldenFiddle has always been among my favorite, somewhat snarky, pop culture blogs. There was always a good deal of shared interest overlap and the commentary, even when unsaid, was aloof and ridiculous. But a funny thing happened on June 21st to the site.. nothing but glitched art with celebrity captions has been emerging from the site. I'm not complaining, some of it is quite beautiful... I just hope ole Spencer Sloan hasn't lost his mind!
