This trailer for the offering won't be for everyone but I find it mesmerizing and incredible comforting to listen to... even though it is, essentially, documented decay.

The end results are like a beautiful blend of Courier and Archer with unique flourishes in all the right places. Font swoon!

My buddy Kyle recently started a new artful tumblog called Foggy Nation. It's a repository of black and white images filled with crazy animations, sexy ambiguity, jetpacks, Batman and other artful undertakings. In other words, there's a lot going on. Check it out, follow along, make it a regular visit.

Loving the photostream of Graham Hamby. There's something overly quiet, and a bit unsettling, about these barren suburban abandoned destinations. If that unsettles you, at least you can appreciate the typography.

Last night I watched Magnolia Pictures The Queen of Versailles, the story of timeshare mogul David Siegel and his wife Jackie making their way through the 2008 financial crisis. It's an absolutely fascinating bit of documentary as my brain was unable to decipher how it should feel about the subjects. Their level of greed, irresponsible spending and grotesque entitlement was infuriating; so much thoughtlessness and needless pride all for the pursuit of money. However, Jackie Siegel actually seemed like a pretty loving friend and mother - a decent person, if you will. Her ignorance aided in creating some sympathy for her that was immediately usurped by more annoyance of her spending behavior. It's a roller coaster ride to watch but in a very entertaining way. I suggest trying it out if you get the chance.

Shaun Inman has some great insight on Automatic Conditional Retina Images, a problem that has "plagued" designer developers that are trying to efficiently conquer responsive design and make things look their best on the retina display of new Mac products. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a way around creating duplicate assets in any scenario but, at the very least, this tactic seems to be incredibly straightforward.

Yesterday, VHX launched a new homepage but, more importantly, revealed a new mission for the company. I don't think it comes as a surprise to anyone but the focus of the company is no longer the community of social video sharing (though, that's not going away) but, rather, empowering artists through digital video distribution. This blog post says it best:

We learned a lot and saw a tidal shift coming in the world of video distribution. We want to change how filmmakers sell their films, and we firmly believe they should make more money from it. Our new film distribution platform handles payments, playback, and support – so artists can focus on making great work.

I'm part of a great team and we've got a lot more great things on the way. Hopefully the new homepage helps to clarify where we're headed.

I am a sucker for a miniature. Combine that with a terrarium and you've got me good. Such is the case with Brooklyn's Twig Terrariums - a collection of moss covered creations and other small worlds. Dive right into their flickr gallery for some familiar scenes or artful moments. Next time I'm in NY, I'll be checking it out.

In case you were wondering if Chinese development projects were still nuts, you can rest easy, they are. For example, this rooftop villa cluster built on top of a shopping mall in Zhuzhou has been declared legal. The homes will serve as the offices for the mall developers and 160 real estate employees. There's something compelling about the Green-ness of the construction but something equally sad about living on top of the place you work...

Thanks to my curation duties over at We Own This Town I end up discovering a lot of quality music that just so happens to be from Nashville. Such is the case with All Them Witches and their album Our Mother Electricity. The "desert psych" style won't be for everybody but I am fairly certain there's a decent amount of you readers out there that will appreciate it. They do a great job of balancing the psychedelic influence without veering too far into a sludgy mess. Quality, solid, rock - as far as I'm concerned.

Jeremy clued me in to the works of Colin Chillag and I'm mesmerized by the portrait style and sparser pieces. However, I think I'm most entranced by his installation pieces and involved overhead scenes. My only complaint? I wish I could see all of the pieces bigger - way bigger.

Rather enjoying the photostream and portfolio of Philip J Bond. He's got a quality blog as well but you'll likely be distracted for awhile browsing familiar and should be familiar characters.

I've been a curiously intrigued fan of Allison Schulnik since I first encountered her Grizzly Bear video for Ready, Able. This Studio Visit from Beautiful/Decay gives some nice insight into her history, her process and her view on the somewhat sad and grotesque creatures she creates.

Remember the Everything Is A Remix series from Kirby Ferguson? Well, he's taken a lot of those points and created a new talk that he presented at TED - Embrace the Remix. As with his three previous videos it's an inspiring reminder that borrowing from others can lead to great things - and has been done many times over by people far more successful than yourself.

When can we see Kirby and Austin Kleon sit down and have a chat about this? Chris points out this meetup happened and it was great.

I'm often wary of any software that promises a shortcut from learning. CSS Hat offers a way to go straight from Photoshop layer style to CSS3 markup. This would be a huge timesaver and, assuming the code is streamlined, quite efficient. My concern comes with making sure you know the purpose of the code being generated first. That way you can always make subtle edits as need be. So, assuming you're comfortable with the markup for text-shadow and its ilk, dive right in!

• Horse Taking it to The Limit - I'm sure there's some simply explanation for this like a modded video game that I'm unfamiliar with but I prefer to embrace ignorance. Too weird not to.
• Every Day I'm Whistling - can someone insert this for the ultimate combo?
• Kot Stabilizator - another potential mashup waiting to happen with this video.
• Kid Static - K.I.D. - new music video from Whiskerino alumni Kid Static. It takes place at Comic Con - of course I'm going to post it.
• Music Video for Emily - this is the kind of thing that makes you feel immediately embarrassed for the kid. Everyone gets their 15 minutes, right? Wait for the guitar solo.
• Invisible Bicycle Helmet - this isn't funny or wacky, it's fascinating. Two design students redesign and, potentially, revolutionize the bicycle helmet. The reveal at the end is worth the build. Do not fast forward.
• Ragu: Long Day of Childhood - I don't have TV anymore, so this commercial is new to me. Additionally, it's hilarious. Love that song. See Also: Spaghetti Braids.
• Cat in the Class - Ceiling Cat knows how to make an entrance.
• Shaun Sperling Bar Mitzvah Dance - this is like the inverse of "Song for Emily" because this kid obviously feels zero embarrassment and owns the event completely. Good to end the playlist on some ridiculous dancing; been too long.

There's a lot of content to get through but I highly suggest starting with Stereotypes - Word on the Street Part 1 (followed by Part 2). Obviously I'm a big fan of word on the street videos of people just sharing their opinion and this is right up my alley. You start off thinking it's hilarious and you end up just being glued to the video out of legitimate fascination.

Thanks to Matt I've found myself spiraling down into the wealth of content Laz Rojas ( actor, writer, artist, cartoonist and more) has to offer. He plays every character in his original screenplays - 102 different characters across 52 scenes to be exact. And that's just in the plenty more where that came from.

Please note, I'm not mocking Rojas. I'm just fascinated. You've certainly seen worse actors. You've certainly seen a lot less effort put into projects. I just can't determine when these were made and what has come of them. Whatever the case, I'm diving into the Comedy, Sci-Fi and Bloopers. Mesmerizing!

Some time ago I remember hearing that regular people, non-retailers, were using Square to send payments to each other. Maybe a big group of friends ate a restaurant and instead of attempting some check split or owing money to a friend, they just paid right away to one person with the device.

Venmo takes that concept of paying your friends via your phone one step further into simplicity by removing the need for any sort of physical dongle. You sign up for Venmo, put in your banking info and you can start transferring funds to your friends right away. I can see this being a hugely handy service for a load of reasons - buying things from Craigslist, repaying debts immediately, keeping the night going, etc. The biggest hurdle is ensuring the end user that the program is secure which, from what I've experienced, is quite well done.

I'm always hesitant to post content from The Creators Project because it's a marketing effort from Intel and Vice to put them in the Court of Cool but, honestly, it's kind of working. They've got quality content. For example, this great 10-minute featurette on The Making of Beasts of the Southern Wild is a great bit of insight into the process of creating the film, the collective of filmmakers involved and even the special effects they put forth. It's engaging and interesting... a great addendum to the film itself.
