I know nothing of the actual taste of the beers coming out of Austin Beerworks but if their take on a fine brew is anything compared to their presentation in web design, it should be a mighty delicious undertaking. Granted, I'm sure they didn't design the site themselves (these guys did) but it shows they respect getting a craft right. Long story short, absolutely love the site - everything from the color palette, the logo design, the huge page immersions, the diagrams, the photography, etc. It's really got it all. Now, I just need to try one!

• Undercover: Bad News for Thieves - another software program ala Hidden or Prey but seems to only require the purchasing of the software, no additional services.
• Tweetr:Proxy - apparently using Twitter, OAuth and Flash is not an entirely pleasant experience but this proxy, once installed, makes things a little easier. Word of note: it will overwrite any existing htaccess file you have; so be sure to plop it into a "proxy" subdirectory.

• Kid Gives Speech After Learning To Ride a Bike - if the triumphant nature of this video doesn't warm your heart you are a cold cold individual. Paul said it best; I look forward to when this kid grows up and starts writing speeches for President Bill Pullman.
• Pastor Erickson's Miney Miney Tiny Time Town - given that this was posted in 2007 I am going to assume it's incredible old news to everyone here but, to me, it's fresh and quite amusing.
• Cyriak - Baa - as with all Cyriak videos, be patient... when you think it can't get any more bizarre and weird, it does. Then it does again.
• Cat plays Shell Game - and has a pretty good success rate!
• Old Man invades interview - I do not want any context for this. I just want to enjoy this weird old man being a strange nuisance.
• There's no such thing as Jellyfish - granted, this doesn't fall into the "temporal entertainment" that most Friday Videos consist of but there is so much beautiful footage of these creatures that it should not be missed. And the calm, educational narration is a nice bonus.

Bonus Videos

• VHX Bumpers - when you load up VHX you are greeted with a custom, often vintage styled, bumper. All of them are great. You can even submit your own.
• Mardi and The Egg - this boxer dog loves herself an egg. I try not to overwhelm the main playlist with Animal Videos but this is too heartwarming to miss.
• Christmas Krampus Cat - alternatively, this cat absolutely hates its Krampus outfit. Fortunately, the narrator is hilarious.
• Denver International Airport Conspiracies - again, not a quick video bit of entertainment but seems worth watching.. even if it's just for some chuckles.
• TED Talk: Aaron Koblin - the man responsible for the Arcade Fire "Wilderness" video and The Johnny Cash Project (among other things) has a TED Talk. Need to remember to watch this.

Nashville's Smallest Art Gallery posted a new show last night from artist Lain York. A Brief History of Swimming Pool Design (2500 B.C.) will be on display for the next six weeks or so and I suggest dropping by (if you can) as the show really makes the most visual sense seeing them all grouped together.. rather than as singular digital images on the NSAG site.

I can't believe this is the 22nd show for the gallery. I'm very proud of Daniel for continuously curating such goodness.

It's always good to jump start the weekend with some fresh new mixes. Fortunately, Paige and Jeremy are here to help.

• Flux-Rad Mix - Life Coach - from a quick glance at the tracklisting I can tell that there is a lot here I am unfamiliar with but mixed in with a decent amount that I do know. This, in my mind, equates to a forthcoming stream of new goodness to familiarize myself with. In other words, Flux-Rad delivers the goods once again.
• Jeremy Okai Davis Mix - The Raw, The Joy - I'll be totally honest, I don't get into much hip-hop. Something about it generally bores me but if there's anyone that can compile a number of songs that are engaging to the ear, it's Jeremy.

When my good buddy Arlo departed for a two-week trip to Spain I tasked him with the request of coming back with some great images of the walls / streets of the cities to use as desktop wallpaper. He had done this in the past and the results adorned my screen for months. This go around, he definitely delivered. I will be rotating through the set for many months here on out.

Without trying, it seems that I start each blogging day off with a series of nerd / technology related posts. Today is no different:

• iPhone Swipe using jQuery Demo - if you're not using jQuery Mobile this seems like a handy bit of information to have around. I share because I care.
• Windows 8 Sneak Peek - Microsoft gave its first look at the next iteration of Windows and it's a doozy. From a design perspective, they actually made something that doesn't look like the Worst of Winamp. From a usability perspective, they are obviously going down the line of touch screen pretty hardcore. I don't know how you marry such a mentality with the onslaught of visual information that is Microsoft Office but that's not really a concern for them I guess. John Gruber, as usual, has some great thoughts on it.
• JQAPI - alternative documentation to the standard jQuery documentation. Way easier to navigate, much easier to find information and even has options to download as HTML or an AIR app. Bookmarked.

It's that time again! Another episode of Everything. I believe they are now the longest running Channel 101 show around but I really hope they don't fall from grace before reaching the 20th episode. Fingers crossed! This installment features segments by Aaron Moles, Nick Plotquin, Ryan Perez, Danny Jelinek and Jason Whetzell. Hosted, as always, by Sophie Kipner.

I'm blown away by the portfolio of Curtis Nishimura. There is a wealth of designs available to check out and they cover an enormous variety of styles. I'd link you directly to my favorite examples but that's not an option within the design.. so just keep an eye out for Chloe & Isabel, the Floop App, the Cuban Council promo, iPad wallpapers and some crazy personal work.

About.me serves a simple purpose: make a one-stop, single page destination for yourself. By giving the site permissions to various API (Flickr, Instagram, Vimeo, Twitter, etc) you create a quick overview of what you've been up to. It's the simplest single page profile creator since Flavors.me (which I also love but seems to have some content grabbing issues from time to time). I made one for myself and don't expect to do much else with it but, at the very least, it's a great link to include in an email footer.

The tumblog Awesome People Hanging Out Together could also just as easily be named "Photos of Celebrities" but since a great deal of the images are of people no longer in the limelight (many, not even alive) it has a different feel to it. I mean, how often do you see Kurt Vonnegut and Sting in the same place? Never!

• <li> Maker is exactly what it sounds like - a simple little tool for wrapping lists into HTML. There are fewer things more annoying than having to setup static lists of content.. this should bear the brunt of some of the pain. Thankfully sent via Josh.
• Google Chrome - Why I Hate It and Continue To Use It - pitch perfect writeup on the flaws of Chrome. The sentiment "death by a thousand cuts" is the absolute best way to put it. That being said, it is my main browser of choice.
• jQuery Custom Content Scroller - honestly I hope the day comes when such scrollers are vanquished from the face of the web but until that day comes, you may find yourself in need of this script. It's like fleXcroll but simpler.

I am pleased to announce that VHX is now out of private beta and into public beta. What's the difference? Well, it means they worked out a lot of kinks in their service, optimized how everything works and now allow registration for anyone and everyone. Thus far my experience with the site has been very pleasant - it's a great way to passively watch videos from a number of trusted sources. The more people use it, the better it's going to get. So, go sign up and follow along.

Really enjoying the massive amount of works from the I Love Doodle photostream. I'll often shy away from the overly cutesy but there's an excellent balance with the slightly off kilter that makes this work perfectly for me. There's also a Tumblr version if you'd like to follow along.

I'll admit it, I'm kinda loving the full trailer for the forthcoming US remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Is it necessary for the film to be remade at all since it's already been a wildly successful trilogy? Probably not. However, if the David Fincher "Feel Bad Movie of Christmas" style vibe of the trailer carries over to the full film, I don't think anyone will mind that it's a remake. The pacing is great and the Trent Reznor / Karen O cover of Zeppelin definitely sets a rather ominous tone. There was a red band trailer making the rounds this past weekend but the regular version is every bit as good.

Remember that site Listening Room where you could have a group congregate and share music in a real time chat environment? Well, Outloud.FM is exactly like that - only with a much more barebones interface. Basically, you come into a room, drag in an mp3 and everyone hears it! It's really quite a great concept.. join in.

The Internet can be a truly sad place of rampant ignorance. For instance, I'm Not Racist, But... documents various Facebook posts in which people believe they are not being racist but, turns out, are being exactly that. The initial reaction is, of course, to laugh at their ignorance but then you have to realize that this kind of hatred doesn't seem to be going away. So, it's a hearty chuckle followed by a heavy sigh.

Much along the same lines is Literally Unbelievable - a site that documents Facebook reactions to Onion articles as if they were real. Turns out Satire is too hefty of a concept for a lot of people to decipher on their own.

Lately I've been curiously intrigued by tracking software for your Mac that allows you to catch potential thieves. I don't really feel that my laptop is in danger of being stolen but with an app like Hidden it seems like it'd be even less of a concern. Check out this guys story - he had Hidden running, took remote photos of the dude and, eventually, had him busted by the cops. Kind of amazing.

I realize this sounds like some sort of paid endorsement for the product but I've never actually used it and I'm hesitant to pay a service fee (albeit nominal) for something that's not all that likely to happen. I guess that's the whole concept of Insurance, eh?

Today marks the end of Moustache May. I'm closing the doors on the site for an indefinite period of time (likely, forever) and it's a bittersweet day. I'm happy to not have to curate a site dedicated to facial hair anymore but I really do think that the community it has fostered is something beyond explanation. The friendships I have made on that site are legitimate, strong bonds and I can't begin to express how grateful I am for all the great creativity and outpouring from everyone involved. As always, I owe Daniel a great deal of gratitude for his help in designing it and keeping me on my toes with improving the site.

But I digress. While today may be a somewhat melancholy event I wouldn't want to go out on a low note. Moustache May was about creativity and there's fewer phenomenal examples of that than this undertaking from Chad McClarnon for a fake movie entitled MM: The Final Cut. The trailer is remarkably good looking, hilarious at times and an excellent slice of entertainment to document the time spent together. I thank him for it. Hopefully you enjoy it as much as I do.
