Pitchfork + Coupler

posted November 20, 2017 #

When I started yk records, I had zero expectations for any high profile music sites to ever discuss my releases. Whenever the Nashville Cream would write about something I released, I was pleased as punch. Earlier this year, Rolling Stone debuted a Little Bandit video and I was overjoyed that my little label would wriggle its way into such a publication. I've had Bandcamp mention several releases (Makeup and Vanity Set, Skyway Man among them) and was shocked to be on their radar, given how much I enjoy them as a company.

Now it seems that Pitchfork has reviewed the new Coupler record, giving it a 7.1. Not a bad score and not a terrible accompanying writeup (considering the pessimism the publication is known for, it's actually quite good). I gotta say, it's a great feeling to see that tiny little "YK" on their site along with the review.

I think the label has a long way to go in terms of visibility and reaching more people with its musical offerings but I consider this an excellent notch on the accomplishments list.
