Redesign Review: eMusic

Much to my surprise yesterday when going to nab my monthly downloads from eMusic I was greeted with a bit of a redesign adorning the site. The header had a total overhaul and the album detail pages are largely improved (cover images at a usable size, more pleasant tracklisting, etc). Even the user tools - Save for Later, Add to List, etc - are easy to find and use. I was honestly somewhat floored.

The only drawback is that the redesign seems incomplete. I am all for rolling out improvements as you make them but my fingers are crossed that they don't stop at the current incarnation. The majority of inner page content remains the same design as it was a week ago - optimized for 800x600 and nowhere near as pleasant on the eyes. A page like this still has tiny discography covers, a non-uniform user tool bar and just doesn't jive with the overall vibe anymore.

So, despite it being only about 75% complete, I give the eMusic redesign a resounding approval. With their enjoyable pricing plan and ever growing catalog I can actually imagine them being able to stick around for awhile now. Refreshing to see them feel more valid as a service now that they've spruced things up.
