S-Town

If you weren't aware, the minds behind Serial and This American Life have released a new podcast entitled S-Town. It explores a murder perpetrated by a wealthy families son and how the town does nothing but cover it up.

Except the podcast is about a lot more than that. I won't spoil it but as you listen, it's easy to tell as soon as the second chapter that this thing is going into a much more diverse range of topics. It's far more than a murder mystery investigation.

Furthermore, it serves as a compelling investigation of the Southerner - an archetype filled with conflicting personality traits. Racist but affable. Concerned with the world but stuck within a smaller sphere of family obligations. Idiotic sounding but more well learned than most of us. That alone makes it worth a listen. Oh, and since they released it Netflix style (every episode available all at once), you can dive right in.
