Stone Jack Jones, Black Snake

My own yk Records released the fifth album from Stone Jack Jones today, entitled Black Snake. I'm at a bit of a loss for words as to how to describe it in a way that articulates it properly. We've been calling it "Psychedelic Country Noir" and that feels apt but isn't a holistic description of what lies within.
It's a dark record but it's not a downer, tracks like "Mary Mary" and "#Beautiful Day" are downright optimistic. It's a layered record but it's not challenging per se. There's a lot of instrumentation but it's peppered together in a way that nothings ever too much. It's expansive, giving itself room to let songs sprawl out if it feels appropriate, but it's intentional.
Despite the above, it's also not an exercise in dichotomy. It's actually a beautiful record with moments of melancholy, reflection and optimism. It's diverse, like a great record steeped in storytelling should be.
Available on vinyl, Spotify, Apple, Google and all the rest. Jack plays DRKMTTR here in Nashville on Sat, Sept 14th and at Alphaville in NYC on Oct 8th.
