The Great Spotify Debate

Spotify
Aaron posted a duo of links regarding Spotify; one for it, one against. Both are great reads and I thank Aaron for pointing me in their direction. The Anti-Spotify writeup basically argues that they're setting up a bait-and-switch.. get you hooked on their massive available library, have you pay for membership and then raise prices. You'd "have" to pay to keep access to your media. I tend to agree that this is not the kind of gatekeeping that I'm interested in.

But that's the thing. Doesn't Spotify really boil down to personal preference? It's kind of the Analog vs Digital argument.. only this is Digital vs Other Digital. Some people love vinyl and hate mp3.. others can't comprehend why you'd ever want to listen to music with a needle. That same mentality extends to having an enormous library of tunes saved to your harddrive - lots of people don't want that. They just want to pull up a song and listen. It's not an artifact to them.

It's certainly a topic worthy of debate.
