The above image is a retouched version of a searchlight photo taken in February 1942 of an unknown object over Los Angeles. "During the early morning air-raid alert, more than 1,400 anti-aircraft shells are fired." Keep in mind this is less than three months after Pearl Harbor - an added aspect of tension for an already tense scenario. The original image is not quite as dramatic but still surreal in a number of ways.
