The Rules of Graphic Design, caspar v

posted June 11, 2018 #

I've long been an open fanboy of version industries and the works of Caspar V. I also have the fortunate luck to consider him a friend so I've spoken to him at great length on how he approaches graphic design, film and generally being a contemplative creative person.

He recently shared some of those insights in this essay that was published in the David Carson book The Rules of Graphic Design. The piece, Am I wrong for trying to hold on to the best thing I ever had?, discusses the "rules" that Caspar sets up for himself when creating work. He doesn't discuss the specific rules he uses (because that's not the point) but rather focuses on the strength of constraints.

Caspar's work exists on a level of thoughtfulness that I will, personally, continue to strive for and it's nice to have this kind of referencable insight as to how he gets there.
