The Virtual Future

This image of Mark Zuckerberg strolling through the crowd at a Samsung event has been making the rounds the week and I can't help but be filled with an impending sense of sadness. I think having read or watched the likes of Ready Player One, Lawnmower Man or Snow Crash gives me a sense of dread thinking about the complex emotional escape that VR can provide. Seeing a sea of actual people tethered in to that experience makes that dread feel all too real.

I'm sure, like all new technology, there's going to be concern and trepidation. I scoff at the idea that social media is all bad, though some would certainly argue the other way. VR will have its place, I just hope we don't end up like this!
