Why Youtube Buffers is fascinating... and incredibly nerdy. Over the course of the four page piece it goes into a lot of quite technical detail about different Tier level peers, data centers and, most importantly, the deals made between service providers to keep things running. Turns out there's a lot of manipulation, power trips and backstabbing that ends up throttling user experiences. It's a dense read but it helps to give a better understanding of the tech (and questionable business) happening behind the scenes.
