I'm pretty sure I've griped about this before, but I saw lots of examples of it last night and had a few discussions about it.. so I thought I'd bring it up (again).
Pet Peeve #102: The advent of digital camera's gives everyone the ability to quickly, and sometimes cheaply, document all sorts of events in their life.. including live rock shows. Over the past 2 years I can't count the number of digital camera's I've seen held up at shows taking photo's of the act on stage. And while it might be cool to have some sort of digital document about a show you went to by using the built in flash on your camera you are completely ruining the moment. You are creating a moment in time with a big bright white flash drowning out any other stage lights. If your camera can't handle the speed at which photo's need to be taken to capture a live show without a flash - just don't do it. Your pictures are garuanteed to look like total crap (with the possible exception of them being black/white) and it's not serving one of the purposes of photography - capturing a moment, not creating one.
For quick evidence of how proper this is see the works of
Jon and
Jasper.

I was reading a
review over at Pitchfork of
The Unicorns.. and aside from having a rather bad band name (and worse album title), the musics not bad and the
album artwork is hot. Worth a download here or there.

What happens when you take a Segway and crossbreed it with an anime style motorcycle? You get the
Embrio. I can't imagine seeing one of these actually being driven, but it's still interesting to look at.

Welcome to the latest version of yewknee.com. No more version numbers, no more multiple pages, no more out of control large Flash files that take forever to animate. We all know you come here for the log, so I made an effort to make that the focus of the site while still keeping a few goodies at hand here and there.
The site should work (and look) fine in the majority of browsers out there - with one random glitch in Safari 1.0. I'm working to fix it, but in the meantime you Mac people who haven't upgraded to 1.1 will just have to deal with that funky spacing around the comments.
Anyway, I hope everyone enjoys the sleeker, faster loading, streamlined yewknee. If you feel like you were left out of the Old School Jump Menu - let me know, I kind of lost steam on populating it with links halfway through... no offense intended. Remember.. heather grey and pink are the new hot color combo.

Umm..
Life in Vector = hands down best realistic illustration work I've seen. Ever.

Apparently the
Run Ronnie, Run DVD has a little
easter egg contained within. Guess I should actually buy that thing at some point.

Very cool to see that someone is re-releasing
Modern Times. I'm not surprised it's not coming to Nashville, but I seriously suggest those that can go see it,
do. One question tho.. why are they referring to him as
Charles Chaplin all the sudden?

The
Vinyl Killers show looks like it was great.. really smart concept - though too many of the pictures are of random people, not enough of the work.

Looks like the TMBG Documentary -
Gigantic is coming out on DVD this month. It's a good thing too because I was too slammed to check it out in theatres when it was here...

Not sure what I think about the
Miss Digital World competition. Wait.. yes I do. Dumber than any Miss American pageant or any other competition of it's ilk, but this one actually requires some skill to create a realistic person. There's a joke in there somewhere, I'm sure you'll pick up on it.

David Bean launches the photography portfolio site for
Mark Tucker. Aside from it being a rather slick site, the photo's are quite nice. For anyone that saw this site prior to this launch, you should appreciate how much of a massive overhaul this is. Major kudos to David.

Some great commercials over at
PJ DDB. The Milk Campaign and the Adopt A Pet are particularly amusing.

I remember seeing some Nike Presto commercials awhile back featuring
Le Parkour but I'd never investigated it any further. Apparently there are a ton of
videos you can watch. A word of warning, if you watch the "Speed Air Man" video first.. you're doomed to think the rest of the videos pale in comparison (and they do), so maybe you're better off just watching
that one.

The photography of
Nitin Vadukul is pretty amazing. While the over-the-top manipulations really aren't my thing, they are really well done. The Donald Sutherland, Kevin Garnett, and Pepe Aguilar are top notch (not all together.. all seperate pics). Thanks
daniel.

Apparently Arrested Development (the band) is
suing Fox because they have a new show entitled... "Arrested Development." It's a sitcom about a rag-tag group of hip-hop artists that break the mainstream with one hit never to be hear from again.. oh wait.. no it's not. No it's not at all. It's not like "Arrested Development" is a phrase that the band came up with - it's part of the English language! I wish that there was one judge that handled all these ridiculous lawsuits and just laughed and pointed at the plaintiff's until they left the courtroom.

Love the mad ghetto stylings of
haphazard studios. Check the Motion work for DJ Maj - the "Mad Rapper" is pretty entertaining.
