I've
no idea what's going on with this
Keanu Gif and I'm perfectly comfortable with that.
Speaking of Keanu, the boys at
San Dimas Today (the Bill & Ted podcast I help produce) are having a party in Nashville on June 9th for
Bill and Ted Day. Yes, that's actually a thing. If you're in the Nashville area,
come by.
If you need a real quick distraction, go
enjoy this, then dive in...
- TobyMac answers your questions - maybe it was my mood at the time but this video struck me as hilarious. Is this serious? I think the answer is a resounding yes.
- Buckcherry "Head Like a Hole" - I managed to watch this whole thing and I'm just speechless. It's odd enough for them to cover this song but even odder that it seems no one in the audience even knows the song.
- Twen - "Holy River" - a nice shoegaze-y pop song paired with a bafflingly weird video. I like it but I can't say I understand it.
- News Bloopers, 80's and 90's - yes, it's ten minutes and, yes, you will watch the whole thing. Then you will know that Heidi Godman is legend.
- The Angelic Initiative, #998 - I should devote more insight into exactly what The Angelic Initiative is but, quite frankly, I don't think I could articulate it. At it's core, these two are mediums; channeling something but it registers as total gibberish. It's as bizarrely soothing as it is grating and weird. They may have some questionable beliefs mixed in there too but, hey, it's YouTube!
- HWAT!? - don't know what it is. Don't want to know more. Just want to enjoy.

Matthew Butterick has a fantastic rundown of all the current Democratic Presidential Candidates and their choice of Typography in this
Special Listicle for America. The compliments and takedowns are all fair and legitimately enjoyable to read. If you find yourself wondering why you should care about such a thing, Butterick has already answered that:
For those who think it trivializes our political process to judge candidates by their typography—what would you prefer we scrutinize? Qualifications? Ground into dust during the last election. Issues? Be my guest. Whether a candidate will ever fulfill a certain campaign promise about a certain issue is conjectural.
But typography—that’s a real decision candidates have to make today, with real money and real consequences. And if I can’t trust you to pick some reasonable fonts and colors, then why should I trust you with the nuclear codes?
Ridiculous of course but that's the point. Don't think too hard here. Just enjoy.

I hear a lot of men talking about game of thrones, but precious few are talking about the insane abortion ban going on. https://t.co/1mgYBcOJ28

This piece from
Jeremy Schoenherr does a great job on articulating one of the bigger issues with the state of things lately. If you are not outraged
by what's happening with abortion laws or
our constantly lying President or
rampant gun violence or
the fight against Healthcare, you are on the wrong side of history. Period. If someone wants to yell at me on Twitter for that,
have at it.
Schoenner's piece is largely focused on the fight for female rights and the lack fo vocal outrage from men. As a white, cis, man myself; I am privileged in ways that are often hard to comprehend because they've been such a
given my entire life. Schoenner does a better job than myself of making that point and how it should not be taken lightly.
At the end of the day, taking action in ways beyond Internet engagement is the only way to make a difference. Tweeting, Instagramming, whatever is not really going to put a dent in anything. So, give money to operations like
Yellowhammer Fund that helps people get the resources and transportations they need in Alabama when facing the horribly difficult decision of abortion. Schoenner lists a bunch of other spots where your money can make a difference, even if it's just a little.
Giving money should only be the first step. It's a powerful step but should not stop there; as being vocal in real life will make a difference too. That doesn't mean you have to be confrontational or aggressive about it but silence is not working.
This is all a long ramble to say - I want to do better. I have privilege that I often take for granted and want to do more. I hope you feel the same.

As you may have seen
on the tweets, I recently released an episode of my Nashville Music podcast that is
all about hip-hop. Admittedly, I know next to nothing about that particular scene so I had the help of music journalist
Lance Conzett come in to aid in my education.
If you're not interested in the chit chat between Lance and myself, you can also hear the selections from the episode
over on Spotify, just start with the track from Brian Brown, "Newports."

The goal behind
Tellie is an admirable and simple one; surface interesting creator content. There may be some technology underlying it that makes it even
more interesting but, at the root of it, it's a place to go see videos you may find interesting. Nothing wrong with that. Do a ton of other sites do that? Yes, absolutely. Regardless, this feels like one to keep an eye on as there's already some
worthwhile gems to enjoy.
