Somehow it had never occurred to me to see what the pilot of Bob's Burgers might look like. Much like early Simpsons, the character designs aren't as polished or fully realized; sensible given that it's the very first episode. The original character concepts are by Jay Howell, and his style really shines through. It's fun to see Bob a bit gnarlier.
It's a fascinating watch both in terms of the elements that were ditched ("Daniel" becomes Tina, the family is way nicer to one another) and the elements that stayed (the theme song is intact, the Burger of the Day gag remains, the cast is all there). It's just 13-minutes, so give it a whirl.
New York Magazine has a series of profiles on fascinating homes in NYC. I recently shared the Amy Sedaris tour (do watch), which led me to this piece on The All-Black Boerum Hill Firehouse home to production designer and artists Julian LaVerdiere and Erica Hohf.
The home features an archery range, a Japanese soaking tub and a massive terrace; particularly by Brooklyn standards. The entirety of the downstairs is painted black and they have a pet snake. All of those things together would generally incur a massive eye-roll on my part as it stinks of the worst kind of pretension. However, it does look great. The all black interior is intelligently lit, particularly in the bookcases, and the kitchen is filled with beautiful natural light and vegetation.
Long story short, it's okay to have a "thing," particularly when you do it this well.
Over the past year or so my iOS gameplay has dropped significantly. Maybe it's the bevy of projects I have loaded myself up with or maybe I've just not been inclined to play anything when there's a world of NY Times articles to browse and fret about. For whatever reason, I've missed a lot of enjoyable recent options. However, Holedown recently came into my life and I'm enjoying the delightful distraction.
At the core, it's a slightly more complex, much better designed, version of Arkanoid. You shoot balls down at some blocks and if they hit said block enough times, they disappear. It's surprisingly fun and not as mindless as that description may make it sound.

I've been a fan of the work of version industries for as long as I can remember. There always seems to be a process and a rationalization to every piece of work they release - be it album covers, movie posters or websites - that supports the artistic expression of it. That's neither here nor there, just a comment worth making.
This rundown on The Best Film Posters of 2018 comes from a place of inspiration, admiration and refreshing honesty. Caspar doesn't refrain from pointing out when part of a design doesn't work for him or doesn't fit the usual aesthetic from a particular designer; be that good or bad.
It's a long read but it's so much more rewarding than just a blog post of images, as the accompanying text makes the poster viewing experience even more rewarding.
According to this Engadget article, the folks at Impossible Foods are launching the 2.0 version of their Impossible Burger. The new version is made from soy protein instead of wheat, is textured even closer to real meat and provides the sustenance that many people claim veggie burgers do not.
"It has as much bioavailable iron and protein as the same size serving of ground beef, with 14 grams of fat and 240 calories per quarter-pound patty."
The Impossible Burger is an interesting undertaking. As a vegetarian, I don't care if something "tastes like real meat." I assume many others don't as well. The trick is getting meat eaters to even try a non-meat alternative and understand the benefits. It's not really about the protein, or the texture, or the grill sizzle - it's about sustainability, environmental impact and animal cruelty. Getting people to care about that is an Impossible Task, for the most part.
I wish them the best of luck and will be supporting them in the most effective way I know how, by giving them my dollars.
