`Tis the season to get
Spoopy! It's the 19th now so there's not a whole lot of time left to start getting your head straight for the holiday season. Embrace Halloween fully as it opens the gates to the end of the year. Don't resist it, dive right in.
Full spoopy playlist coming next week...
- What Is Spoopy? - in case you didn't know.
- Bollywood Superman - yes, you may have seen it before but does it ever really get old? No, it does not. Let this inspire your Halloween.
- Boston Dynamics Uptown Funk - look, I know they were trying to make something endearing here showing that these robo-dogs can also dance to your favorite mall song but, for me, this is just further establishing how terrifying our future robot overlords will be.
- Kanye presents his new video - this is so stupid, it's great.
- Wait - no, wait, this is so stupid, it's great.
- Scary Maze Game - another spoopy video to get you in the right headspace.

I'm flattered to be named in the
Best of Nashville 2018 issue of the Nashville Scene for
Best Record Label Expansion. Seems like my efforts over at
yk records are noticed by others - I'm honestly shocked!
I'm happy with the direction and the releases of the label but, clearly, none of it is possible without the work of the musicians. So, many thanks to
Dave Paulson,
Patrick Damphier, Forget Cassettes,
New Man,
Sleep Good,
The Mute Group,
You Drive,
Quichenight and
Jasmin Kaset for making 2018 superb.
I feel like I'm making an acceptance speech, which is not the intention. I'm humbled and flattered by the nod and hope to use it as fuel for 2019.

I've been a fan of
Jez Burrows for some time. He's an accomplished
designer, a
clever guy and, from my one meeting, extremely nice. He has a new Kickstarter project called
And Introducing, which aims to be an art book documenting the most absurd castings credits from a "century of cinema history."
His intro video breaks it down best but, essentially, he scoured hundreds of movies looking for ridiculous credits like "Lobster Woman", "Policeman with Theory" or "German Potato Salad Lady at Deli Counter." It's an immense list and an entertaining one to boot. Here's the high brow synopsis:
And Introducing is a survey of the kinds of characters that have existed on the periphery of movies almost as long as movies have existed. By gathering thousands of these credits and organising them into categories, we can see patterns and connections across both time and genre. We can see through a very specific lens how filmmakers and screenwriters rely upon things like gender, race, age, and beauty in order to fill in the narrative gaps between lead and supporting actors.
Also, not to undercut all that fancy talk too much, but, y'know, the book's funny.
Go
check the Kickstarter page for more details on the project and to see the worthwhile reward levels offered.

It's been quite awhile since I dipped into the world of
The Heads of State. Last I looked, they were kicking ass at gig poster design without any inclination of slowing down. In that time, it seems they've expanded their reach into book cover design. They reworked a series of Steinbeck Classics for Penguin Books and posted a rather insightful
walkthrough of the work. Looking at all of the iterations provided, it's hard to determine how they decided what design was stronger than another, as they're all remarkable.

The last few months I've been trying to determine how to get the
We Own This Town podcasts up on Spotify. Distributing an RSS to pretty much every other destination - Apple, Google, Stitcher, etc - is very straightforward and easy. Everything I'd read about getting a podcast on Spotify said that I had to use a
specific host to make it happen.
While I'm sure those services are great, I didn't want to migrate all my files, figure out a whole new workflow and start paying a lot more money to distribute 6 or more shows. To be clear, I'm not against paying for services that improve your offering, I'm just not in a position to do so at this time.
But all that is moot because Spotify launched
Spotify for Podcasters where you simply submit an RSS feed and there seems to be no issue or preference around where your files are hosted.
Long story short, all the WOTT podcasts are now on Spotify.
I feel like quite an idiot for not stumbling into this earlier but I'm happy to found it regardless. Hopefully this makes enjoying those shows easier for everyone out there.
