New Hat, Collection 1

posted May 16, 2018 #

New Hat is an art and design studio that does a lot of phenomenal custom wallpapers and interior installations. Their instagram is filled with examples of beautiful patterns, experimental prints and fun explorations. Their official site breaks down many of their projects more directly and should not be missed.

The big news here is that they're now stepping out a bit beyond collaborations and installations to start offering their own line of wallpapers. The first offering, entitled Collection 1, offers a wide variety of alluring patterns and textures. I'm partial to "Blue Nile" and "Plinth" but every single one of them is worthy of staring at. Go give it a gander and consider adorning your walls with their creations.

PRIS

posted May 16, 2018 #

I have mentioned it before but Makeup and Vanity Set offers a subscription that gets you access to all kinds of Subscriber Only releases. At this time, there's seven full albums of music only heard by subscribers. Kind of bonkers.

He recently released PRIS as part of the subscription and then, for reasons only MAVS knows, he released it for everyone to have access to.
So, if you were unconvinced of the quality of albums behind the subscription, let this be a shining example of the kind of great work he's putting out there. It's definitely a different sound for him. It lives in the same world as his other dark, keyboard / beat driven escapades but there's a tone and vibe to it that feels more organic and lighter at times. Not as other worldly as Trackless but certainly influenced by that a bit.

Vidalotry: The Three Kennedys

posted May 15, 2018 #

Keeping with the theme of sharing things I'm helping to put out into the world, the seventh episode of Vidalotry is now available. This episode explores the relationship between Gore Vidal and the Kennedy family. Turns out, somewhat unsurprisingly at this point, it's a contentious and complicated relationship.
There's only ten episodes in total for this particular podcast so we're definitely on the backend. It's a tough sell to convince people to listen to a podcast about Gore Vidal - a guy they likely know very little about that's been dead for six years but I was in that same boat and have been enamored with these episodes. They're relatively short, informative and give some nice historical perspective that our political landscape has always been tumultuous and there's always been champions of the underdog.

Hott Minute: Halloween In May

posted May 15, 2018 #

As I mentioned on Friday, work has been unrelenting lately. As such, finding time to browse and cobble together blog posts here has been difficult. So, in lieu of posting things that other people have made, I'm going to share things that I'm helping to put out into the world. Seems like a decent tradeoff, right?

As such, here's Episode 10 of Hott Minute- the comedy podcast I help produce over on We Own This Town. Ten episodes may not sound like a lot but it's been an extremely fun learning experience and I'm happy to be a part of this thing.
This particular episode is great because it features a brand new theme song from Tristen and has the show's first special guest, long time friend Brooks Alford.

Do me a favor, go Subscribe so by the time you read these news posts you already know.

Skyway Man, Opportunities / Vision pt 2

posted May 14, 2018 #

Skyway Man just released his latest official video off his his debut album, Seen Comin' From a Mighty Eye, and it's a doozie. The track, "Opportunities / Visions pt 2", finds Skyway Man performing with the Athens High School Marching Band in a pretty damn lively performance. You can read all about the creation of the video and the thoughts behind it over on the Nashville Cream or just dive right into the whole thing. Be sure to stick through the whole thing as it really ramps up at the end.

Working on Dapp

posted May 14, 2018 #

Generally I'd reserve a post about a tweet for the sidebar because that's where they go but this post from Mixpanel founder Suhail about developing a Dapp (Decentralized Application) was worthy of a more of a spotlight.

If you watched the fifth season of Silicon Valley or read anything about Bitcoin / Ethereum (ever), then you're vaguely familiar with the wide concept of Dapp but this thread is so much more enlightening in regards to just how immature the tech is. That's not meant as a bash on it, it's just a fact that there's a ton of work to do. Please read the whole thread.

When thinking about digital currency, there's a Gold Rush kind of feeling that the future is right there if you can just grab it but this kind of insight is absolute enlightenment that, even if Dapp is the future, there's a long road ahead.

Aaron Owens

There's something engaging about the body of work from Aaron Owens that is undeniably fascinating but his drone images have me the most entranced. There's something so perfect about the framing of these top down shots that I can't stop staring at. If I was more articulate I'd probably say something about how it captures the world we live in from a perspective we can never know but I won't go that far. They're great, dive in.
