I've got a lot of exciting things in the works for yk records and I can't wait to start sharing them. I'm tightening up release schedules and preparing some new sites for the coming months. I know Fall is not everyone's favorite time to release records but these are gonna be great. I hope you're excited too.
Anyway, I know why you're here. Let the distractions commence:
Jimmy Fallon loves Donald Trump - lots of hub-bub last week when Fallon had Trump on his show and treated him like a goofy little so-and-so. Anyone that thinks we shouldn't expect more of Fallon should read this. Anyway, not getting political because Super Deluxe reworked the clip brilliantly and accurately.
Save the Day - a talking heads video filled with celebrities reminding you to vote. Standard issue stuff until they break the fourth wall and mock themselves. It works.
Bertie Higgins - Key Largo - this song is enjoyable but the video leaves me with many questions. What is his necklace? Is that woman his lover? His daughter? Is a sweater appropriate beach wear? Is a sports coat and hawaiian shirt coming back? Is it already over?
I Can Go For Sax - I just wanted to let you all know that I still listen to this regularly and still love it.
If you're in NYC this weekend, swing by the Bob's Burgers Art Show Tribute from Spoke Art. If you're not in the area, just browse this online version - which will get you vaguely the same experience. I'm keeping myself ignorant to the contents of the show until I see it with my own peepers but I love that cover art.
At this point in time, I hope you know the tale of NASA's Golden Record, aboard Voyager I. I've spoken about it plentybefore and I'll assume you're as fascinated with Voyager I and II's journey as I am.
Ozma Records just launched this Kickstarter to manufacturer a 40th Anniversary vinyl boxset paying tribute to the original record. It definitely looks to be a beautiful offering and one well worth backing.
I will add a small caveat that I'm a little baffled why there isn't an actual replica of the record itself - an etched record with the Paulsen illustration on the b-side would be phenomenal. But that being said, I won't balk at the greatness they are offering.
I've really been enjoying the latest from Nashville's Quichenight, Camille's Market. It's the eighth release from Brett Rosenberg and, in my opinion, his finest crafted piece of work. It's got the same lo-fi-ish charm from his previous undertakings but the songs themselves carry a swagger, a confidence and a willingness to branch out into more weirdo territories.
It's also on Spotify, Youtube and wherever fine music is streamed. Give it a try.
DOTS is branching out with their marketing and starting a series of videos that showcases individuals that "embody the `Spirit of Dots`." The first is this Nigel Sylvester piece, a BMX'er riding through a sea of dots. The video itself is pleasant but I love the music. Read more about the project here and even listen to the track alone here.
