I can hardly believe it but the
fortieth release from
yk records is on the horizon. I'm happy to announce that release be from
Birdcloud, entitled
Singles Only. The double vinyl is a compilation of their four previous releases -
Self-Titled,
One More Again,
Effortless and
TETNIS. It's a Best Of that includes every previous release. Only they could make such a thing happen. You can preorder the record

If you aren't familiar with the work of Birdcloud, I suggest diving into "
Indianer" - the first song I ever heard from them. As with all their work, it's funny but it's not comedy. It's tongue-in-cheek but it's also serious. It's a wink and a nod but it's not making fun. Birdcloud is far more complex and nuanced than what you may assume on first listen. I think it may require being
from The South to truly get it but I will leave that open for others to decide.
The cover photo is by
Rachel Briggs and I couldn't be more pleased with how it turned out. It's the perfect representation of the duality the band embodies.

Back in 1998, UNKLE released the album
Psyence Fiction. You likely remember the Jonathan Glazer directed video for
Rabbit in Your Headlights or Jake Scott's
Be There but did you know that Stanley Kubrick had agreed to direct a video from the album as well? His untimely death meant that this never came to light but James Lavelle (aka UNKLE) has teamed up with director Toby Dye and the Ridley Scott Associates to create
The Corridor, an art installation / music video that draws major influence from Kubrick. Here's the official writeup:
Starring Joanna Lumley and Aidan Gillen, the installation features four distinct films in which four narratives bleed into one another, crossing Kubrickian corridors as they weave together a disorientating, hypnotic tale of control, violence and a doomed cycle of power.
For now, all we can enjoy is this
wonderful teaser but hopefully the full version will appear online some day. Read more about it

It can be difficult to tell from the size of most web images but the
Dieorama series from Abigail Goldman is worth sticking your face right up next to your monitor. It's spelled "dieorama" because her small scale creations depict murders, death, cover-ups and other such macabre notions; a cutesy name for a not so cute act. You can see them quite well in
this series but the real depth of work on her
official site requires some squinting and investigating, a pursuit well worth it once you see the adorable bloodshed.

- DANIELS - Nike Ad - hot on the heels of their full-length movie, Swiss Army Man, comes a Nike commercial that feels sorta normal at first and then takes a deep plunge into weirdness. Just like you'd expect from DANIELS.
- Chef No. 5 - Mambo No 5 was made for this.
- Mark Ronson - Feel Right - somehow I'd never seen this video for the Mystikal heavy song. Perfect.
- Sonic and Mario Cut Scene - this is a slow burn but if you can stand in there, it's weirdness is worth your time.
- PJ Harvey "The Wheel" (Live) - not really a funny video but I had no idea PJ Harvey could wail on a saxophone. Love it.
- Don't Hug Me I'm Scared 6 - I just watched what I assume is the finale last night and am floored by how dark they managed to go with this series. Heavy.
- Orion Beach - an oldie but still a goodie. Perfect for summer.

The portfolio of Cornelius Dammrich over at
zomax.net is an impressive display of nuanced 3D renderings that clearly get more and more realistic as you progress through them. The latest entry -
52hz is mind boggling realistic. Whenever I see creations like this - from a single individual mind you - I have to remind myself that computer graphics when I was growing up looked like
this. Not bad but we've certainly come a long way.

NASA has developed a new camera entitled the "HiDyRS-X" that allows them to record "high speed, high dynamic range footage in multiple exposures simultaneously for use in analyzing rocket engine tests." Basically, it's HD-R for solid rocket engine boosters and the results are awesome. They look unreal, probably because they
are unreal compared to what our eyes can actually see. You can watch the
video test, it's mesmerizing to say the least.
