I can't tell you how long I've been waiting for a project like
The Superbook to come along. It is, simply put, a laptop interface that is largely powered by your smartphone. You plug your device in and get the benefit of a larger screen but all of your data is stored on your mobile, ready to be unplugged and taken with you to whatever your next destination is.
The concept is brilliant and clearly an inevitability in tech. The laptop and desktop market as we currently know it will die a slow death as mobile phones get more and more powerful, needing only a larger screen and keyboard to make interfacing a bit easier. One day you may not even to lug around the screen interface, they'll just be available at your coffee shop. Or maybe we'll have moved on to hologram screens and VR by then and it won't even matter.
Regardless of what the future holds, Andromium, Inc is carving a path towards it with this
Kickstarter project. If I had an Android device, I'd pre-order the first one to roll off the line immediately, instead I'll just throw them a few dollars to help push us onwards and upwards.

this goes over my head pretty quickly but I love the idea of a new protocol that's more efficient than TCP.

There's no shortage of animation experiments floating around on Tumblr but I'm rather enjoying the works of
3000fps. It's dark and glitchy but still has a grainy realistic feel at times - almost like a sci-fi interface gone wrong.

The writing is a little scattered but this piece on Maura Murray -
And Then She Was Gone - seems like it's begging to be a investigatory Netflix series. Or maybe a podcast. Oh wait, it
is a podcast.
I haven't done the deep dive yet but the article has me intrigued enough to hear more.

True story, one time I ran into
Matt Lehman at my favorite crappy coffee shop in Nashville and we lamented at how great it is to work in a place that has absolutely zero interest in your presence. You can work there all day!
But I'm burying the lede here. Matt has recently
relaunched his portfolio and it's a unsurprisingly beautiful. Great type choices, plenty of white space and illustrations for days. You can click on
any entry - at
random even - and it's filled with examples of compelling line work, type and texture.

I mentioned it in the sidebar but
DM Stith's new album,
Pigeonheart, has been released and it is a doozie. You can stream it / order it on
Bandcamp or dive into it on
Spotify or
Apple Music.
There's no one element of it that makes it so captivating but the intensity of the music mixed with the ghostly vocal stylings creates a situation I can't steer my ears away from.

The repository of found type at
Vernacular Typography is immense. Fortunately, it's categorized into very convenient buckets for maximum enjoyment. Browse through the
Neon,
Giant Metal Type Signs,
Gold Lettering or even
Grammatical Errors - just to name a few. I also recommend giving the
Untype collection a spin. It isn't so much letters and words as it is admiration of the little details but it's certainly worth a gander.

Sorry for the giant cover image this week but I get great delight from imagining staring down the face of a dolphin that just wants to give you a
little kiss. The horror is real.
Please enjoy my
Q2 mix and get some solid giggles out
this guy and
this labradolphin.
- America - lots of positive feelings about America this week but let's not forget what we're really about. A Taco Bell parking lot fight while you order your fast food. via Adam.
- Fan.tasia - there are mashups and then there is this thing. The editing and merging of characters and scenes is insane. When you're done with that, revisit Pogo, my favorite from this genre.
- Stranger Things references - you know how everyone says Netflix Stranger Things is referencing a bunch of 80's movies? Here's the side-by-side.
- Treasure Dance - I feel equal parts bad and very amused.
- Rick and Morty Court Transcript - at Comic-Con lastweek, Justin Roiland read a Georgia court transcript set to an animatic. It's vulgar and ridiculous but works so well as Rick and Morty.
- Morgan and Morgan - Morgan and Morgan and Morgan and Morgan

Today is the third birthday celebration of
Talking With Hands release
The World and Ourselves on my own
yk records. The album probably flew under your radar, which is a shame because if you're a fan of pop bands like XTC, Jason Falkner, Jellyfish or The Features - you will highly enjoy it.
It's on
Spotify and
Bandcamp and all the other streaming sources. I'm still a big fan of it and I hope you discover that you are as well.

Let's get a few things clear right at the start. First, I am proud of our country for finally nominating a female to run for President of the United States. We're behind as a country in a lot of ways but I'm glad we've finally got that box checked. Secondly, I appreciate Bernie Sanders and really love many of his stances on the Problems of Politics. That being said, I am not a Bernie Bro. Lastly, I came into this election feeling like Clinton was a "career politican" - a person that is more willing to compromise to keep their career than to do the right thing. I have been brainwashed and I'm okay with admitting it.
This Daily Banter article -
If You're Liberal and You Think Hillary Clinton Is Corrupt and Untrustworthy, You're Rewarding 25 Years of GOP Smears - wins for having the most terribly long headline and for making a strong case that if you, like myself, look down upon the accomplishments of Hillary Clinton, you're buying into negative hype sold to you from the other side of the aisle. It is, sadly, part of the game.
Do not get me wrong. I am not a fan of absolute's or black-and-white thinking. I am sure Clinton's record has plenty of bad marks and moments. She is a person. We make mistakes. So, this is not me wholeheartedly agreeing with an article about the pure nature of Hillary Clinton. However, this is me saying that if you aren't excited about her being the nominee, you should ask yourself
why. If it's personality based, take a step back and remind yourself that policy is the important part. If it's perception of her tumultuous, questionable past, make sure you did the research on the specifics of those incidents; use politically agnostic sources if you can.
Sorry to rant on about politics here. I'm always scared to speak my mind about these things because I find debate on the Internet to be tiresome but I also don't want to make declarations and walk away.
This article and
this speech got me thinking and I hope others will do the same.

I'm never one to shy away from a fan theory. The entirety of
Room 237 dissects Kubrick's
The Shining to find hidden meaning and obtuse references. Are they real? Are they intentional? There's really no way to know.
Along those same lines comes this
One Perfect Shot theory that
Mulholland Drive is a Twin Peaks Film - meaning that both stories are set within the same world, despite not having obvious character overlap.
Given how Lynch has often stated that even
he doesn't always know what his films mean, I see no reason for this to be considered invalid. Maybe the oddities of Mulholland Drive really are spirits from The Black Lodge. It's really up to you to decide.
