Gotham In Cinemascope

Recently, Kory Westerhold posted an impressive gallery of images entitled Gotham in Cinemascope that all stem from his experience with the Sigma dp2 Quattro Digital Camera. I have never heard of said device prior to this gallery but I'm loving the ultra wide format and color palette (though that may be Kory's doing in post).

I, personally, can not imagine carrying around a secondary camera anymore as I've grown so accustomed to the convenience of my phone camera but this work certainly makes me stop and wonder if it might be worth it. Beautiful work, view them all.

Talking Heads - Capitol Theatre 1980

A full 80-minute Talking Heads performance from the Capitol Theatre in 1980 has surfaced and it is a wonderful sight to behold. For whatever reason, it's a multi-camera setup and excellent soundboard recording, free to watch. It predates Stop Making Sense by several years but has the same energy and enjoyability. I don't mean this to sound like a Comic-Book Guy style review of a new youtube video - it's just great to see a 35-year old performance find its way online and be preserved this well.

New York City 1990's

It's unfortunate that there isn't more attribution involved but this mega gallery of 1990's New Yorkers and Street Scenes is a fascinating browse. Six installments of various scenes and people walking the city during that time, as well as posters and store fronts from that same era. You typically see a lot of images from 80's NYC but not so much the 90's - so this is refreshing look at that particularly transitional decade.

Really been enjoying the illustrated works of Matt Blease. His official site has a nice offering of well executed projects but the real treats are on his blog and Instagram. Some of it is awesomely silly but occasionally there's a poignant sincerity that reminds me of Chris Ware. Oh, and his avatar is something special.
